lol so this forum kind of sucks in that I can't reply to 80% of the threads that I want to reply to.

Anyways, in [hot deals] everyone seems to agree that TLC is always inferior to MLC. However, the Crucial MX200 and BX200 have far higher TBW ratings than similarly priced MLCs on the market that I'm aware of, so you have better data-integrity while maintaining endurance.

I want to ask if perhaps I'm mistaken, or present this counter example... alas...
 
I'm not sure I understand your question. The Crucial MX200 is MLC, while the BX200 is TLC; is there some confusion about that?
 
TLC is inferior to MLC. If anyone suggests otherwise, they aren't comparing apples to apples.

Now, that being said, some implementations of TLC SSD's might be superior to some implementations of MLC SSD's, but then that's not apples to apples, is it?

The world is not so cut n dry. My opinion? If I can buy the SSD drive I want with MLC NAND (and >19nm preferred), I do so. All my SSD's are somewhat older with 25nm being the smallest.
 
MLC is technically superior, it's more reliable.

TLC is significantly less expensive.

All NAND fails, that's why SSDs have overprovisioning and wear-leveling built into their firmware.

So while TLC may have individual cells fail sooner, they are so much cheaper to produce that a good TLC drive will include more overprovisioning to help counter than.

So it's entirely plausible that a TLC drive could last as long, or longer, than a similar MLC drive.
 
the thing is supposedly 3D NAND TLC is comparable to MLC depending on what node the 3D NAND TLC is on vs the MLC. 3D NAND increases endurance i guess from what some forum members have said but not on a 19nm vs 19nm level but on (making this up) 30nm 3D-TLC vs 19nm MLC

Honestly for a consumer grade product the difference really does not matter... much larger and cheaper drives will be available before any current reputable SSD reaches end of life due to writes.
