Alright here is the scenario..

I have a tj07 with 4 san ace fans.. they get loud as a jet engine.

My issue is I have all of the murdermod pretty stuff so I only have the 3 1/4 bay as a viable area for a fan controller.

The issue is they do not really sell a fan controller that fits in that bay that can handle the wattage of the san ace fans and to go with that most of them are 2-3 fan dials only.

I know there are software fan controllers that cost upwards of $100 but im looking for a cheaper option if possible.

The idea im having is I put a 5 1/2 fan controller in one of the top drive bays and hook everything up.

Is it possible to extend the voltage control to the 3 1/4 bay to like a dial or rocker switch? Even if I could do a 7/12 volt mod to a rocker switch would prob work.

Im just looking for any ideas to control these fans in a 3 1/4 bay.. any help is appreciated.

I would HATE to see that case with most of the fan controller I've seen sticking/ staring out of it.
Has some passable reviews, but I've only seen a couple of them. Better for noise control than temp control, but that's more or less the point, isn't it :D
 
Not sure what any of these fit your needs:
  • mount a 5 1/4" controller facing inward so that you still have control over the fans by accessing the inside of the case. You could hide the wiring and then the controller would still look rather spiffy when viewing the inside of the case. That's kinda what the original MurderMod did except with LCD readouts facing inward just above the illuminated plexi.
  • splice resistors or pots to all 4 fans to drop their voltage down to 7v/9v/etc
  • have all fans receive their power from a single potentiometer ( or via buttons/switches like this one or one of these). Depending on the switch/pot, you can wire the fans straight or perhaps via a bus bar/terminal block/barrier strip/whatever & mount that pot somewhere. Inside the case or perhaps to the 3.5" panel. There are pots/knobs/switches that sit flush against their mounting surface, but pop-out to allow you to turn them etc. A quick glance at Radio Shack turned up nothing, and a brief google only turned up this which won't fit your needs, but shows you the concept.


A lot of this depends on if you want to retain control over the fans, or if you just want a set-it-and-forget-it setup. I'm guessing you're looking for ideas before you've sussed out what you wanna do.

Really looking for the ability to control fans at least to a low voltage and high voltage option.

Reversing a fan controller is definitely one of the ideas I was considering.. the only issue is I would have to take the case off anytime I want to turn down the fans.

The main issue is my computer is in the living room and the fans literally over power the TV.. so I would have to pop the case off anytime I want to turn down the fans to watch TV..
Currently I just turn it off but im really looking for a $30-50 solution for this problem.
 
Dunno the wattage of your fans, but maybe you could use a PCI bracket controller like this one? It's only for 3 fans but I've seen others that are for 2 or (i think?) 4 fans. Or else if you can't find one able to handle your San Aces, you could just slap some potentiometers you purchase separately onto a blank PCI panel. Radio Shack probably has what you'd need although you can usually get better pricing on components from surplus stores or other etailers.

You'll have to reach behind your computer of course, but maybe that's easier than taking off the side panel while still allowing you to keep the purdy looks of your MurderMod panels.
