what the hell do i set it too? I searched google for literally 30 mins, and cannot find a straight answer.

right now Everest reports CPU: 47C, Core 1: 47C, Core 2: 45C.
However, when I fired up Real Temp, the TJ Max was set to 85C, thus readings were Core 1: 37C, core 2: 35C

i reset it to a 95C TJ Max, and now it matches everest.

Running stock voltages and everything. haven't started overclocking yet. about to work on that now.
 
I've been wondering this myself. I have my realtemp TJ Max at 100 Celcius just to be on the safe side but I'm not sure what it is. I'm pretty sure that it varies between different steppings though.

TjMax for E8x00 series chips is 100C.
The latest versions of Realtemp should set it correctly.

Ignore idle temps, they mean very little with these chips and can be wildly inaccurate.
The closer you get to TjMax, the closer you are to a reliable temp reading as the lowest calibrated temp is TjMax.
 
hmmm alright downloaded real temp 3.00. Looks like I'm seeing 64 and 62 of core 1 and 2 respectively...

I've overclocked the CPU so far to 3.825ghz, with 1.3 Vcore, using Shin Estu Thermal paste on the system in my sig.

that seems high i suppose :/
 
well, I OC'd to 4.05 ghz with 1.35 Vcore and Primed overnight with no issues. final core temperatures were 70 C on average for both cores.

I'm going to try 4.2 ghz
 
I remember that I had a very hard time getting an acurate temperature reading on my e8400.

What I ended up doing since I couldn't trust any temperature I got. I initially turned off all power saving options in my bios, through it on prime 95 and left it running over the weekend.

But I would be weary of a 45nm dual core. But as long as its stable... it doesn't really matter. Your not going to keep your cpu for 10 years.
 
Heh yeah, I got 4.35GHz at 1.45V with an early E8400 (TRUE 120, silent 120mm fan)
I didnt like to push it that hard so left it at 4.1GHz, 1.4V since Feb 08, its been fantastic!
 
My e8500 E0 runs at 4.2 with 1.32v.

4.3 requires about 1.37 so I'm like F*** THAT!!! :p
 
Lol yea Im just above stock actually, 1.29!!! That and Im using the stock Intel HS, but my system is in an Antec 1200 so I have very good airflow. I prime95'd it for 12 hours and that was good enough for me, if it became unstable I would gladly give it a slight bump in voltage to say around 1.32 or so. I run it at 3.8 on stock voltage all day long, and I havnt put any LN2 or DI on it yet, but will soon :)

4.2 proved very difficult. I upped the voltage to 1.45, and still couldn't get it stable. moved the NB voltage up .25 Volts, but that didnt do it either. i was at a 467 FSB, so i didnt think the FSB voltage needed to go up, but hey maybe it'll boot with more on that. I didnt get to try it so i can't tell you for sure as of right now.

all i know is i can get 4.05 ghz at 1.35Vcore, and that can probably be lowered to 1.325 Vcore, but my Biostar doesn't allow for smaller voltage increases (only .25 each increase :()
 
Ah yea more fsb voltage for sure, but not much. Im running a Asus P5E deluxe flashed to a rampage formula, bios 0411 and it clocks really nice
 
it'll boot at 4.5 on stock, but that doesn't mean its prime95 stable. :/

Auto does not mean stock. If you bump up the FSB your voltages on auto go up with it and no 99% of these chips will not post at 4.5ghz at their VID.

Edit: Oh, you have the Tpower I hated that thing. Sold it in under a week. At a fsb that high being able to tweek your GTLs would help out quite a bit but that can't be done on that P45 which is rediculous and the voltage increments are huge so it really makes tweeking interesting.
 
I've got an E8500 @ 3.8ghz, 1.24v, daily use', im using a True+120mm fan and my temps never go over 40c idle and im hitting 50 - 53c load.

Now for overclocking i took my pc out onto the deck at night when it was 8c outside and hit 4408mhz @ 1.392v, you can see temps bottom right.


 
Nice one e-geek! Thats a really good chip ya got there, wonder what it would do under something colder...

Nice! I believe my chip could do similar as I hit 4.2 at 1.344 IBT 20 pass stable in much higher than 8c. Wonder how it would do under water. BTW, props for having dosbox. Lately, my old school dos games have been getting more attention than the new games. My videocard has been hibernating. lol.
