Well I started my mod with my tj-09 and well the first thing to do is to take it down and get it ready for prep work for mod.
Here are my plans on what i would like to get done.
  1. Paint case Gun Metal Silver(aka titanium)
  2. Add my radiator to the top of the case
  3. Mount pump at the bottom
  4. And any other mods that come along as any mod goes

Here is the case with side panels removed, mother board tray taking out, and middle fan enclosure removed.

The case after fan enclosure removed
p4190364ip8.jpg

The front panel, man it smaller than you think
p4190365bi8.jpg

The front panel connector, going to hopefully sleeve that friday, if my package comes in
p4190366ae2.jpg

The Case taken down and ready to be taken to the shop to get painted. Oh yea my dad owns a body shop so this case is a get the best paint job ever on a case.

Stay tuned there should be updates soon, I have not quite found out what i am going to use far as hardware wise. But i am hoping to build an radeon 2900 rig. But if the card does not live to the hype ill probably just go with a 8800 rig.:D

Ha, your telling me, but hopefully it will turn out like it is in my head. I am a perfectionist, so you can expect everything to be clean and "professionally done". Oh yea this is my first mod, so dont be to harsh on me.

Hey, what are you planning on cutting the hole with for the radiator?

My first mod used a dremel... Big nono :).

Go jigsaw or go home!

Well my plans are to have the radiator installed outside on top of the case and just have the tubing run through the holes in the back.

Did you give up on trying to install it in place of the 120mm fan holders ?

Looking forward to seeing the finish on this case. I thought about making a case with titanium panels until I looked at the cost of sheet titanium :D

Well my first thought was to use a dual 12cm fan, but after a little looking around price difference/performance i decided to go with the 320 and i think that i am going to get better temps with the radiator outside the case, and i have and idea to make an air duct for it. It should look very good, at least i think it should. I hope to have updates this week, work schedule is pretty busy and school is a waste of time, but i will try my hardest to get you guys any kind of update.

i found this that i could use as a t line. I am still leaning toward the micro res, but i was thinking just have the t line hook up to the micro res and not use the res in the loop, just to have it for refilling.

I am not actually using titanium panels, my dad owns a body shop and he is specially ordering a gunmetal silver for me. The closest that I could get to titanium. But I will be painting the inside black and the out side the gunmetal silver.

Ok heres a small update, I sleeved the front panel power and reset buttons and leds cables. And again this is my first mod so this helped me learn alot on sleeving and using the tools, and how to use them. The first picture shows the cables and box for the leds and buttons.
p4230428gl4.jpg

Heres a close up on the connectors.
p4230430yw3.jpg

Heres a close up of the box which the cables come from.
p4230433ll9.jpg

The green cable didnt get heat shrink tube on it because it was the first one i did, and i got on the sleeving got on the heat shrink tube on the one side and put the cable back in the connector, when i realized what i did and i wasnt about to pull it all off, besides ill probably just put on a bigger size there cause the 1/8" wont fit over the connector and sleeving.:D
I will probably be ordering some of the water cooling things like radiator pump and tubing and connectors this week or next week.
Heres what will be going in:
DD 360gt radiator
Swiftech MCP655
Some Tygon Tubing and all the connectors and fittings that ill need.

Drop the "Stealth" radiator. Get either a BIP, a swiftech MCR320, or a BIGTX. The steal radiators really dont perform well till you get some serious airflow running through them, or so I have been told.

Alright i have made some update with the mod but have not had the time to do any updates.
I have mad a drastic change in my cooling scheme i think that it will work beautifully.
  • Things that I am doing
  • Taking out the window and making a fan frame
  • Painting the entire case between silver and black
  • Polishing the case to a mirror finish
  • Having the cpu gpu and hopefully nb passivley cooled using nothing but the air flow of the case
  • Have a lighting scheme that says nothing less than bad @$$
I have alot of plans for this case and hopefully my dad has enough time for me to get into the shop to get some moding done. The shops been really busy lately, probably because the people that live here cant dirve naw just kidding. Also my schedule has been pretty hectic, i have had exams at school, work sucks, and i have been helping out with a camp playing bass for worship, and other odds and ends.
I am expecting this mod to be finished either when summer starts or just a little after depending on a few variables. But i know you guys here will love it. Cant wait to get some pics up!!:D

Sorry for the lack of updates if any one is following, i have gotten quite a bit done. I have primed the motherboard tray and the fan enclosure. If any one has the tj-09 look at the front panel you see on the edge how it bends at an angle then straight down. I am sanding that down to the color of aluminum(which is silver) then i am going to buff and polish the crap out of it. I can not explain the color all i know is that its a BMW color and its supa sick. I pretty sure you guys will love it. Oh I almost forgot the reason why i have not posted any updates, i use my mom's camera because its million times better than mine. And when I started my work on friday my mom was at the shop with and so was her camera. But i was putting on the primer in the paint booth my mom decides to go to Michigan, with her camera. So i had to use my dad's camera at the shop, and i have been so busy sense then that i have not been able to get those pictures from the shop to my home pc. But as soon as possible you have updates and i thinking its going to be alot. So until then happy modding.

Finally, the reason there arent any updates is because we switched from adelphia to comcast, which took us a couple of days to get working cause of schedule for everyone, but heres the updates

Heres me putting primer on the motherboard tray

Heres a basic shot of the primed motherboard
1000216bt5.jpg

Heres the fan enclosure primed
1000214wx2.jpg

Heres the front panel with the trim sanded down using 180 sand grit paper, then buffed it to get the main diminishes out, then hit it with 1200grit then buffed again.
1000217xb8.jpg

another shot
1000218zm7.jpg

Well thats it for now i wished i would of taken a shot of the case its just the frame sanded down waiting to get primed and painted, man is it going to be b-e-a-utiful. The outside of the case will be a bmw shadow grey with the inside being black, and of course im going to buff everything

Got a package from frozencpu sooner than expected, so i thought i share with you.

Got 2, 2 12" white cold cathode kits, and some cable sleeving 1/4" and 1/8" sizes.
p5120471ya6.jpg

Heres the switch that the kit uses, i thought they were going to be black button switches.
So now i have to rethink on how they are going to get installed, ill probably just removed themfrom the bracket and make a special place for them.
p5120472ok9.jpg

Cable sleeving which lengths are 10feet of sleeving and 5feet of heat shrink.
p5120473pq9.jpg

The converters the funny thing about them was they came with a mic that you can see, but no switch to have them run off sound???
p5120474dd5.jpg

First attempt at cable sleeving on a fan which i think it turned out pretty good.

I will be ordering more parts like the fan controllers and fans and the heat sinks pretty soon like next week. I am getting excited that its actually coming together like i ALMOST planed.

Here is a small update in which i took out the usb, firewire, and audio jacks and im going to fill in the hole with the left over material.
1000230rx7.jpg

1000232ns9.jpg

I will be having tons of more updates coming soon.
My fan controllers and fans are on they way should be here tommorrow and i will get those fitted and cut the holes for the fans on the window. And i will get the lights in place and route the cables to the convertors and switches. After i fill the hole in ill prime it and get the rest of the parts primed and ready for paint.

Finishing a little earlier than planned, but not quite done yet.
Here is were i am bonding a piece of metal to the under side of the top of the case to fill in the hole.

1000233uk5.jpg

Here is a view from the top of the case.
1000234jy4.jpg

Here is a better view from the underside.
1000235gq1.jpg

Here is a what came out of that hole.
1000236zw1.jpg

My brother pulled in with his supra as i was modding.
1000237hp2.jpg

Had a little fudge up with the power switch, when i picked up the unit the power cable was snagged on something at yanked out so now i have to sauder it back together.
1000238dq2.jpg

Not a terribly good pic of what happened but you get the idea.
1000239pm3.jpg

Well i will finish the top tommorrow and have it sanded ready to get primed and hopefully painted over the weekend.

Got alot done today and hopefully alot more to come. Got the hole filled with body filler sanded everything and primed everything. Now i have wet sanded everything and and waiting for it to dry so i can paint.

Heres where the usb fire wire audio and mic jack box WAS.

looking very sweet so far

not job sleeving the cables and also filling the hole when you took out the usb :)

so basically to paint a case you'd need to sand the old paint off. you said 180 grit, then move on to 1200?

i have a stacker 830 and the color is just aluminium (silver). it doesn't look like it's painted or anything so what would I have to do? just spray primer and then paint?

You should take note that I am using very high quality primer and paint from dupont. So depending on if your using spray can paint and primer your look will turn out very different from what i will end up with.

Working with aluminum you have to be careful cause aluminum is very smooth and if you were to spray primer and paint it would peel off or fish eye, it would not turn out good at all.

I am having primer peel off where i missed sanding, so ill have to sand everything over again and prime one more time, then ill wet sand probably using 400 grit or 600 grit. Then ill add my paint let it dry, wet sand this time using very high grit which looks like ill be using 1200 or 1500 grit, then add my clear and buff and polish it and it ill look sweet!

I just revieved today my fans and fan controllers, i cant take pics because i am late for work but when i get home later expect some pics of those.

O yea yesterday i got pulled over going 72 in a 45, just my luck, but ill just take a class and pay the fine and it should be ok.

Here are my 9 s-flek fans stacked and layed out.

I can hopefully have the case done by the end of this week.

I am contemplating on these two water coolers, i cant decide on which one to get cause i might want to add video cards later on, but i dont want to void warranties on the cards. I think im leaning toward the 120 because that will look cleaner and perform really good for just cooling the cpu.

If you're just cooling the cpu the single 120mm should be fine, but if you plan on cooling anything else down the road chipset/video card, then go with the dual 120mm, if I had to suggest something though, I'd say get the 120mm for better preformance.

I have made some progress but have not gotten the pictures up yet because of my schedule ive been so busy.
What i have done was ordered a 240 stealth radiator, and the swiftech mcp355 pump. I have mounted the radiator in the place were the 2 120mm fans were, and have a pretty good scheme to put the pump and reservoir in a nifty place that will give the case a clean look. Hope to get you those pictures shortly.

Are guys here is another update, i have got the radiator fitted in and where i want it. And have the pump ready for mounting but waiting on the micro res to come in but cut out a hole in the drive bay for the tubing to go through.

1000372sr6.jpg

Here is the radiator mounted from where the fans where.

And from the drive bay area.

Here is where i cut a section out of the drive bay area for the tubing to run thru.

Here is where the pump will be mounted.

And a shot from the rear.

I have gotten a considerable amount of work done on the case, all the parts except for the frame have gotten there final coat of prime and have been sanded wet with 600 grit, i would of posted pics but they would of been boring cause we all know what sanding looks like, and most of us wish we didnt have to do it some times. But whats next on my list is to finish ordering the liquid cooling hard ware, another pump the reservoir and a single 120mm radiator. I have the two pumps mounted ontop of each other but will be in the same loop just havent figured out how yet. Excpect a but load of updates in the upcoming weeks.:D

are you mounting the pump upside down? If so, that increases the risk of a pump lockup on DDC-2's.

As of right now no i might be ordering a 2nd one and would be making a braket to have both pumps mounted right side up one pump for cpu and nb and the other for the gpus, but i will not order any hardware for awhile i am waiting for price cuts and for drivers and all that jazz to actually work, so wish me luck, oh and if i didnt mention it i am making a special braket to hold the harddrives in to make it look like there floating this way there is better air flow because the pumps and harddrives will be putting alot of heat in that area.

looking good so far, I wouldn´t dare lay my hands on such an expensive case, but Kudos to you, you seem to know what you´re doing.

One question though: Pumps and heat?!? I´m a bit puzzled, my trusty old Eheim 1048 barely gets lukewarm during 24/7 usage, are those Laing thingies really heating it up that much?
And why 2 pumps? There´s a certain amount of flow where any increase in cooling capacity can only be gained by an exponential increase in thoughput. My 1048 has been used for powering 2 water coolings from 2 pcs connected together (2x120, 1x240, 1x320 rad, 2 CPU blocks, 2 GPU blocks, 1 NB block, 1 dual HD block).
Worked great, the pump still does, but now it sits in a server. Almost 7 years of non-stop action, I just love the Eheim pumps :D

Sorry for the lack of updates a have been extremely busy for the last few months and havent even touch my case in months, but i hope to get started on finishing it soon because ill be going to college in January and ill be in Tennessee for christmas so i hope i can get it done before then.

I feel so naked right now i have had no time at all to even touch my case its been sitting in the shop for 6 months collecting dust and with this crazy ridiculous thing going on with companies and something new coming out every week it seems like im going to wait till summer is over and hopefully the technology game will even out by then and i will be too busy to work on it anyways this summer because i have been working at a camp and still have 2 months left there:(PPPPLLLEEEEAAASSSSEEEE wish me luck to get this mod done!!!!!
