So where is the new Sound Blaster Titanium HD? I believe the press release from Creative Labs was back in January.

Also, has anyone heard of any other new sound cards on the horizon? This area of computer gaming seems sooo boring and there is very little focus on moving sound technology forward. Whatever happened to XAudio2 from Microsoft or even OpenAL? Seems like all the latest sound engines are CPU/Software based. I dont know...just a little frustrated.

The soundcard industry has been ailing for years. The problem is, there's only a very small market, and most of these people expect their card to get new OS support until it dies. This yields very low profit margins, and a support nightmare.

Vista / 7 killed what was left of the industry. Drivers for some cards (e.g. Asus Xonar) didn't survive the transition with their reputations intact, which ends-up tuning a lot of people off the subject. Getting the market behind new sound APIs costs time and money, and in a market with such low demand , there is no push for new tech. They have to make the drivers stable and feature-complete before they can even think about new APIs :D

We have the cores to spare, so software is suddenly the most viable option.

I've been a SB fan since the beginning. However the dedicate sound car does seem to be dying unfortunately. :(
