Two years ago I bought an HP HDX laptop (see sig) and last year I somehow managed to destroy the screen. There is a crack in the glass which caused black areas to appear (I assume this is the liquid crystal) and the screen displays a bunch of scan lines. I recently found a replacement LCD screen and I was wondering if anyone has ever cleaned up this type of mess before?

What I really want to know is, is the liquid crystal very toxic? should I be wearing gloves? and are there any recommended cleaning products for this type of disaster?

I would greatly appreciate any feedback from people who have experience replacing LCD screens.

replacing the lcd is easy, remove a few screws, unplug the screen, plug new one in, replace screws.

I replaced one in a toshiba laptop i picked up at a garage sale for $10. It had been stepped on, glass was cracked etc, never seen one leak anything, i didnt wear gloves

So I just did this and it was a really easy replacement. The only tricky part was getting the inverter unplugged when taking the broken screen out, and then getting the ribbon connector into the new slot when putting the new screen back in.

Either way, I am so happy to have my laptop up and running again.
