Seems there are a lot of logitech mice users out there. However, if there is a problem with the mice that we own, I found that it is hard to find good info on the web that offer solutions (mostly people complaining)
In my recent experience with the logitech support I learnt couple new things about the mouse, so I figure I give back to the community that have helped me the most in the years that I have been reading here.
PLEASE I know you guys are experts, feel free to add any other tips that you may have.
Clean up your registry: (get rid of unwanted values that uninstall leaves behind)
BACK UP ANY REGISTRY VALUES THAT YOU CHANGE TO BE SAFE!
courtesy of a customer Rep:
1. Goto hkey_local_machine\system\current control set\enum\usb. Normally you don't have permission to edit keys here, so steps 2 and 3 are necessary.
2. Click once on the usb folder to highlight it, right click on it, and click on permissions as you need permission from Windows XP to remove the drivers.
3. In the permissions window, make sure "everyone" or "admin" is hightlighted, click in the box to allow full control, click apply, then ok.
4. The registry key for the Logitech mouse starts with vid_046D, delete anything that starts with that.
5. Also, if you have one that starts with vid_0000, that is an unknown device and also needs to be removed.
6. This step sounds silly, but just to be on the safe side of things
After deleting these keys, close the registry editor, unplug your Logitech mouse, count to 10, and plug it back in. Make sure you are plugging it directly into your computer, not going thru a hub, switch, or any passthrough device of any kind. This will now give you fresh drivers for your mouse.
This may or may not help with issues like jittery mouse cursor. But if you are like me, a cleaner registry is always a good thing
Weird source of RF interference
According to another rep, some LCDs can interfere with the RF that the newer mouse uses. So be sure to put your wireless mouse Base station away from LCDs.
I definitely experienced some change when I moved my G7's base station right under my 2405fpw.
Again YMMV. For me the registry cleaning got rid of my "floaty" mouse problem on my A64 machine.
Use the logitech support (really they actually help a lot...)
So far, they have the best response time, and RMA policy that I have experienced from a manufacturer. Even for G7s all you really need to get a RMA is to have the mouse around and be able to give them the serial numbers on it...
And the exchange process is nice too. They will ask you to set a time so they can have someone to come pick up your mouse. (just need to have all the parts of the mouse and any random box...) After they get your mouse they will ship the replacement (brand new mouse) immediately. (I got my G7 replaced in less then 5 days after the DHL person came to pick up the mouse)
Hope this helps a little
