Timeless units?

I'm assuming timeless units are worth less points and/or no points??
 
All WU's are worth something... I just think they are worth less as you had stated.

 
I don't think Stanford issues timeless units anymore. I could be wrong though.

 
Timeless work unit are now worth 0 PpD as they are not issued.
If you set-up a box to get them, you won't any download any work, so you will earn your 0 PpD quite easily .......... :p

Timeless tinkers died out probably about 2 years ago. The value was pretty good and because of that the system was abused. AMDs chewed through tinkers like a hot knife through room temp butter. As a result, many systems that were not in need of timeless units were set up for timeless and points were better than the regular stuff being dished out at the time.

AMDs rocked tinker core units because it was basically a non-optimized core (no sse, etc) and AMDs superior floating point unit really shined. Back when there was only tinker core work units is when you would see a 1GHz Duron folding at the same speed as a 2GHz P4. And if you had a cheap 1700+ OCed to 2.1+GHz, you had to wonder why anyone would buy a high priced P4 (at any speed) for folding.

I guess you could say Tinker was to AMD what QMD (boy was that short lived) was to Intel.

You'll see from my badge that I have close to 30,000 WUs. About 26,000 of those were provided by AMD power. Ah...the good old days. ;)

Not quite.
I now just fold SMP work units on Intel's CPU as opposed to Tinkers on AMD's.
Well actually, I was more referring to AMD architecture vs Intel. The situation doesn't look too bright for AMD right now or in the foreseeable future. We'll see what Montreal will bring to the table, if it's released on schedule and yields are good.

The Phenom folds at about the same PpDpGhz as the Kentsfield.
It just does not overclock up to the same range in Ghz as it.
Hopefully the next stepping will do better.

True, and the fact that if you're a folder who likes to implement VMs with quad-core systems, you're pretty much out of luck with the current stepping unless you employ the 'fix' to circumvent the TLB errata. Unfortunately, that will also decrease performance to a very significant degree, FWIU.

Apparently, the TLB errata won't manifest unless the processor is running at 2.4GHz or higher, but that will greatly limit the OC headroom of the processor unless you employ the fix, which will decrease performance, etc... See what I mean?

If anyone desires a Phenom and folds with VMs, my advice is to wait for the B3 stepping. Better yet, wait for the 45nm Shanghai die shrink which will have much more OC potential (hopefully) and no errata like the B3.
