Time to upgrade for BF3

Ok I am finally putting my build together and the biggest hiccup will be the hour. I have q few ideas on the matter. Leaning towards either SLi 560ti or GTX 570. U have enough power from PSU already (1000watts of overkill lol) atm I have a GTX 460. Haven't seen any BF3 beta benchmarks from the 560s as of yet, on 570 and 580. Also, can I use my 460 as for physx?

why not pick up a $140 460 and sli it?
from what I remember its as fast as a single 580

According to nVidia's GPU analyzer, my 460GTX's in SLI passed the Battlefield 3 requirements. Waiting for Open Beta on Friday to see how it performs.

If you can't wait, there's a thread in Hot Deals - Zotac GTX580 for 399.99 with free shipping.

Btw, what resolution are you running?

Try out the BF3 beta first and then decide. I have a single 5870 and I am able to run at Ultra settings with everything on except for AA and I get 45 to 70 FPS @ 1920x1200. With AA on (2x or 4x), FPS drops to 30.

From what I have been seeing, the 560ti will be enough to play it at ultra settings with 4x msaa at 1080p with over 50 fps. Its a very CPU intensive game so having a decent cpu will go a very long way I think.

Also, I think this will be the final graphics, if only for a couple of optimizations here and there. This just means that the game will end up looking better in the end because it will become better optimized for nvidia and amd, but the graphics will not necesarily be "better", at least I dont think so.

I think this beta is meant more as a demo to get as many people as possible to try the game out.

At 1280x800 to 1440x900 this may be true. It will not be true at 1920x1080 or higher.

Any evidence for this? I have quite a few posts (some of them here on [H]ard forums) that say they are running those specs (some say with 0 msaa and others with 2-4 msaa) at very good frame rates. Mostly I see from 40-70 fps with the 560ti. While that's the only piece of hardware that they mentioned in most posts, can't get myself to believe that the game won't be able to run well at these settings with a 560ti.

Found this nifty little google doc.

Now, keep in mind that most people will pad their actual fps just a bit, but this is a decent source of info to see how your system will do. And once again, the 560ti looks like it is doing mighty fine.

At 1080p Ultra settings (with everything graphics details set to maximum), we get an average of around 50fps for a single AMD 6970/GTX580, 80fps for a AMD 6990 (2 GPU crossfire) and 140fps for a AMD 6990 in Quadfire

So if they get roughly 50fps with a GTX580 or HD6970, you're not going to be seeing more than 50fps with a GTX560Ti. I'm not sure the 17% drop to 1680x1050 would be enough to make up for that fact either.

At the moment I'm using my 37" LG tv. I might be upgrading to a 42" LED soon so I'm not sure about resolution until I get home. If the 560ti really mazes the game out, then I might awd well just get one. But then again, I'm not 100% sure the graphics requirements for Ultra will change come launch. So I might wait till then to make a definitive purchase. There have been mixed emotions about certain specs for cards. Plus I heard if you overclock the 560ti correctly it can match the 570 or be about 5-10% more efficient. Still researching this though.
