Currently I am using a 21" Sony Trinitron. This thing is awesome. It has been a great monitor that has provided me many years of great service.

I did a lot of research a few years ago when I was thinking about replacing this thing before, but I didn't because of the ones closer to my price range still had a good amount of ghosting.

I play a good number of FPS games so ghosting is really what I am worried about. So is there any sub 300 dollar LCDs that have minimal to no ghosting or is this still a major issue?

If not I'll just stick with my Trinitron.

Edit:

I assume I am still mainly looking at response times to minimize ghosting?

I'm in the same boat, actually I did buy an lcd about a year ago but ended up still using my crt. I am waiting for some more 120hz models to come out. Even with the "2 ms" LCD I had, mouse movement didn't feel quite as smooth as on my crt.

gwarren your link is broken.

I have been hearing some good things about the

Gateway FHD2401

ASUS VW246H

LG W2453V

From what I have gathered the LG or the Gateway have better gaming performance than the Asus.

I am more than likely going to get dual monitors. I was thinking of getting the Gateway for gaming, development and web browsing and the ASUS for moving. With the Asus being 1080 I can watch movies and such on it without having bars :). That way I can get the best of both worlds.

Anyone have any reason why this wouldn't be a good idea? Or would it be better to get both the same.

I have dual monitors at work and both are different and I don't have any issues with it.

I've got a Sony FW900 and Dell 2209wa. The Dell TFT is used only as a secondary monitor and the odd xbox game. I can't bear to use it for fps gaming, even though of the many TFTs I've used, it is one of the best in terms of response time and ghosting. It's not so much the ghosting but the motion resolution that is an issue with TFTs (maybe this is less pronounced at 120hz). When moving the mouse in game on a CRT you can track an object as it moves around the screen. With a TFT everything becomes rather fuzzy and focusing is nigh on impossible.

The only monitors that could be even compared are those two 120hz ones. But they're 1680x1050, I'd wait for the 1080p ones to show up before buying a new one.

But because those cheapo lcds are so cheap, You could buy a 60hz acer just like this http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1466381 and when that 120hz hit the stores get it too and have two identical displays, the other being 120 hz for gaming and other 60hz for extended desktop, whatevet you do with it.

here you go, I hope the 120hz one will be as pictured... but this should be the same http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009163

ok it's orange yes, but hopefully they'll have a black one too. I hate nothing more than having mismatching dual monitors :p
