Time to get started!

Well! I've been an avid computer builder/gamer for quite some time but after having my first child and starting college along with being active duty military, I have very little time to actually game anymore. So I have this really nice computer sitting here doing absolutely nothing most days, so today I decided, why not start folding?!?!

So I'm going to start tonight with the Folding@home project and try to read up a bit more on everything I can over the next few weeks.

Just wanted to say Hi! to the [H]orde!

Nice to have you on board, and welcome to the team!

Thanks guys!

First question!

Ive ran through the FAH GPU Tracker guide and have setup accordingly. Once started my CPU is running fine but my GPU0 (GTX 670) is currently showing a status of Running but a Project and Points "unknown" with a 0% complete.

Any idea's on fixing this?

EDIT: This is what the log file is reading...

[00:36:51] Work directory not found. Creating...
[00:36:51] Could not open work queue, generating new queue...
[00:36:51] - Preparing to get new work unit...
[00:36:51] + Attempting to get work packet
[00:36:51] - Connecting to assignment server
[00:36:52] + No appropriate work server was available; will try again in a bit.
[00:36:52] + Couldn't get work instructions.
[00:36:52] - Attempt #1 to get work failed, and no other work to do.
Waiting before retry.

did you try just installing the windows client from the stanford folding site? http://folding.stanford.edu/ EDIT: wow they changed their site...

it will automagically install smp and gpu folding.

just make sure to specify "bigted" as your username and team 33 :D

I did. Ill check it out more thoroughly. From what I was reading the FAH GPU Tracker was the "easy" way for newbies.

EDIT: Getting a Paused: Waiting for Idle. Which is obviously not allowing the GPU to fold.

Do you have it overclocked or are you RDPing into that machine? Overclocking can cause instability and RDP loads a driver which will cause gpu folding to not start

Negative on both. Did notice after coming back from the computer sitting "idle" that it had been folding and was up to 50% on its current project. Problem solved I suppose!

If you are using the latest v7 client, the default is to only fold when the computer is idle. If you want 24/7 folding, set the folding power to FULL and you are away.
