Two reasons,
1. I'm going to Chicago.
2. My other digital camera has about a 1 second shutter speed and it's about 1mp.

So can anyone of you recommend a good digital camera with a price of less than around $500-600 although it's fine if it's in that range too.

Thanks.
Jeff

Umm...what are you looking for in a digital camrea?

That price range covers opposite ends of the spectrum, from something like an EOS d30 to a Cybershot T1. Obviously these would be 2 very different cameras for 2 very different uses.

Things you might want to think about.

-size
-resolution
-zoom
-speed
-manual controls
-battery system

etc. etc.

Perhaps a good starting point would be something like a Canon S70. From there you can work your way up and down in terms of features.

I want it to have an excellent optical zoom and a pretty high resolution.
Speed is also important. My old digital camera couldn't take a picture of someone slowly walking. Adjustable shutter speed would be nice, but not really needed. And maybe a long lasting battery.
What do you mean by manual controls?

Jeff

You have a ton of options in that price range with a good base set of features. You might check out the Olympus C-750 or the Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z3.

The term "manual controls" general means: manual focus, shutter priority, aperture priority. Some others like exposure compensation, white balance control, and so on might also fall under that term, but the focus and priority modes are key.

I would say grab a used 300D Digital Rebel if you want some nice speed, or maybe a 10D, these options allow you to get the lens you want instead of what your stuck with.

Wow, I feel so confused right now.
I think I might just go with the S70.
