Time to decide on a setup: 1 U3011 vs 3x1 U2410/U2311H

i like my setup: http://coolslice.com/2007/08/when-30-is-just-not-big-enough/

best of both worlds

that said, i was debating between adding another 30" (getting rid of the side panels) or going with the 3 24" dell's. Tough decision.

I think I would miss the 2560x1600 resolution the most...

Wrong, I'd say this is the best of both worlds.

that's what I did

but then I wanted more...this is [H], so I sold my 3x20's and bought another 3007 wfp-hc, waiting on the weekend until I purchase my 3rd 3007 =P and going portrait w/ it...VEGA is a bad influence

I like this. But trust me, going all the way is worth it. I have more desktop space then I know what to do with.

Well that's relieving to hear to say the least, since the 24inch option was the most expensive. I do love my 16:10 now but in portrait with 3x1 it really won't matter.

I also wonder if the 23's being 16:9 if I'll have any annoyance from the closer bezels. Kind of afraid to grab a U3011 refurb to be honest. Might have to shell out more for either the NIB one on ebay or one from dell.

I've only looked at the HP a little bit, is it a better option than the U3011? I've had one bad customer service experience with HP in the past which sways me a little.

go w/ the 30 and save up for 2 more later on....I had 3x20's in portrait and I can't imagine going w/ a 23 w/ 16:9 ratio, the bezels will be very close together

as much as I enjoy having portrait mode for eyefinity, I wanted to have the bezels further apart...

The close bezels annoyed the hell out of me when I ran 1080p monitors in portrait. But that coupled with the fact that I was using TN panels made me upgrade.

Mine: 1080p Panels

DoubleJJ's: 1200p Panels

I agree, that's why I'm waiting on my 3rd wfp-hc =P

that's my son's 2007fp on the far left...the 30's completely dwarf it :D

Yeah, Dell won't honor the 30% coupon from earlier today. Tried over the phone to no avail.

Are you talking about a previous coupon? Cause the one posted on slickdeals that was just linked a few posts up still works.

You have to order through dell business, not home.

I know the feeling, I bought a 2007fp on impulse ($100). Now I have no use for it.

What stands are you using to go portrait? I'm looking to buy some better ones.
The stock stands make the screen pitch upwards at the lights in my room.
And the ones I'm using now (the black one on the 2007fp in the photo) lack any anti skid material on the bottom, so my monitors move... I don't like that.

the coupon got reduced to 25% today, but if you go w/ their live chat and show them a SS of the 30% showing an expiration of 01-31-11, then they should honor the 30%

What stands are you using to go portrait?

I will post a pic of it, in the "ghetto rigging shenanigans" thread haha...a black towel, plus some card board, plus some metal clamps that were laying around my office...this will hold me by until I get w/ my uncle, who has a load of carpentry equipment in his basement, so I will probably cut some custom wood pieces to connect all 3 monitors together and a way to prop them up w/ out fear of them toppling over

I am planning to order tomorrow, update on prices with coupons/epp/etc.

3x U2410 = $1347.30 New from dell
3x U2311H = $753.30 New from dell
1x U3011 = $1125 New from dell

All of these prices pretty much say buy me right now, but the biggest discount is on the U3011, which would be the hardest one to get at that much of a discount again. I really hate not having a 3x1 setup portrait or landscape to play with in advance to see what it's like. All I have to go by is that I do like my current 26inch dual monitor set up now, and bigger is better, but it's just so hard to finally pull that trigger on either setup just going by pictures.

Honestly only you can answer your question best. It all depends on how badly you want the 3x1 setup compared to 1x30, how fast you can save up to buy 2 additional 30's if you buy one tomorrow.

If money is not an issue I would buy 1x30 and add 2 additional 30's in near future. If you want 3x1 badly but need to wait 8 months to save up to go eyefinity with 30's I personally would go with u2410s today.

As soon as I sell my rig on ebay, I'm building a new system to support 3x VW266hs which can be had for about $230 after rebate almost every month.

lol I have 2x VW266H's now.

I'm currently running 2x570s with i7 [email protected], will I have any fps problems in cod/bc2/wow with either of these setups?

Why not just buy additional VW266h for eyefinity than?

Also, correct me if I'm wrong but you will need a GPU that supports eyefinity, eg. ATI HD 5870/68XX

Your CPU is a killler (or overkiller?) for any of today's games.

I want to go portrait with IPS if I'm going to add a 3rd monitor. Nvidia is very capable of surround gaming. I was referring to if 570's would be able to handle higher than 2560x1600 since they aren't 2gb.
