So what's the general consensus for all of us who skipped the last upgrade cycle and stuck with their 1.6A + Ti4200 machines (overclocked of course).
Is april/may going to be the time to buy again? With the new change in standards (PCI Express, DDR2, new sockets on both ends), will it be a good time to build a new system from scratch.
Yes, I expect prices to be pretty high, though I've heard some stuff about DDR2 being relatively cheap because motherboard and memory manufactures really want to push it to be the standard this year. Video card wise, what's the performance going to be like? Considering 9800/5900 series was more of an evolution than 9700/5600, what's R420 and NV40 looking out to be like?
Reason for this thread is I'm sure there are plenty of us still on our beloved 1.6A systems, who need to replace it. I've got $1,800 saved up for my next system (scratch 300 for water cooling) and I'd like to replace my current system. It's not slow, but I can feel it being eclipsed this year. I just want to know if the reason behind $220 9800 Pros, $90 good mobos means something exciting is coming up.
