I've got myself a Panasonic Lumux FZ20. I bought it in January. It's a decent midrange point and shoot.

I need something more.

I'm looking at selling off the Panasonic and getting something with more hutzpah.

So I am trying to narrow it down between:

Eos 300D (Drebel)
Eos 10D
Fuji S1
Nikon D1H


Input and experience welcome!
 
Uhhh.... you've chosen a bunch of cameras that are all in different categories. If you're looking entry level, wait for the Rebel XT (350D), or get the nikon D70.

If you're in the "mid" range, look at the cannon 20D

The D1H is a pro level camera... $$$$$$$$$$$

If I were you, read some reviews online...

oh yeah, also, do you already have an investment in glass of any type, from a film SLR maybe?
 
The D1H is old, and is available reasonably cheaply, in the range (on ebay) of the 300D. All these cameras can be had for between 600 and 800 on ebay with at least one lens. That's my categorization schema.

I have no interest in the 350D or the D70. They are too expensive.

I need a body and a basic lens, that's all. 18-55mm or similar.

That said, I'm looking to find people's experiences and suggestions regarding the cameras I have listed. Thanks.
 
20D. Or Digital Rebel XT. Remember, a dSLR is a system. The camera is just the beginning. See which type of photography you like, Nikon and Canon are on the top. I prefer Canon :)

//edit: Sorry, didn't see your last message. I'd pick up the 300D. Once the 350D hits the shelves, I bet you'll be seeing many of them appearing on the used marked for cheap. Hacking the 300D to allow for many of the 10D functions is extremely easy.

Unless you're buying used, the 350D is only $100 more than the old 300D.
 
Yeah, I should have clarified I am buying used.

That said, I've been reading around and comparing reviews, and I think I'm going to go with a 10D if I can find one at a steal of a price. I'll hunt for a few weeks and if I can't, I'll get a Rebel. IQ is almost exactly the same, except in certain situations, which I may never encounter.
