Time for a new socket 939?

I agree on the temptation for upgrading, I have saved a couple of carts myself in newegg. Well, I upgraded my main machine to Vista Home Premium and that will keep me content for a little while, I hope.

Personally, if you have not already done so, I would pick up a dual core processor and new video card. It will work fine most new stuff in my opinion.

And the MSI 650i system that was in my sig is gone now :mad: sold to a close friend that bought and 8800GT. I just transferred the 7950GT over to the little foxconn spare box and kept one of those 4200 X2's I bought for myself at directron. I'll likely buy the 8800GT soon enough and do exactly what I predicted others would do right here in this thread (use the 8800GT with the older 939's until they can afford to upgrade the system). I'll be building a new system with a mainboard that will accept the newer AMD processors (going AMD this time with the main box) and maybe run a 6000+ or 6400 BE with the 8800GT. It's going to be interesting to see how well this little mATX system will handle Crysis @ 16*10 with the monitor in my sig until I get the new system up and running.

i hope you got a good 4200, the one i got from Newegg is a LCBQE 0723VPMW stepping and right now it is running 266*11, that's a 2.9Ghz+ dual core A64 for $69.......i am quite pleased, it helped with Vista Ultimate 64bit performance quite a bit, very noticeable boot speed increase and overall snappiness :)

AMD 64 3000+ Venice @ 2.61 Ghz
Corsair 2x 512mb = 1 Gig of PC3200XL (they don't even sell these anymore)
DFI LanParty UT NF4 Sli-D mobo
Asus Geforce 6800 400/800 (not a lot,but just fine for stock cooler)
450 watt psu from asus

Only game i play on my pc is CounterStrike Source.

at 1280x1024 with 2xAA and 4xAF .. with everything on high except world details on medium, my FPS is around 80-150 ... with an average of around 110 or so.

Last week I got the upgrade bug .. i ordered one of the Toledo's from newegg,the 4200+ x2 and the arctic freezer cooler 64 pro , is supposed to arrive today or tomorrow ( i live in the caribbean,so took a lil longer).. but all in all i'm happy with my socket 939... on a scale, i doubt that ANY new mobo can make the impact that this DFI mobo made on its debute.

This is me...and I'm no fan whatsoever.. when the time comes,around next year. I will see what to do.. who knows, I might upgrade or not.

Btw, once i install the 4200, what shall I do with the 3000+ i already have? I though about building a mini sort of file server around this motherboard..only $40...

^vict0r you could use the 3000 in a folding box and not worry about the speed. or a linux system. I have the box AMD cooler on my system right now and I'm about to install an AC 64 HSF and crank it up from 2.6 to 2.8 or above and see how well it primes for about 16 hours overnight. Right now it easily handles HL1-EP1-EP2 on the 22" (though EP2 with 4X-16X all high HDR does take the frames down from EP1).
