Well .. I have to give a huge thanks to Tigerbiten ...

As many of you know , I have 2 x Quad ATI 4850 systems ...

Vista and the ATI client don't play as nice with multiple GPU running F@H as XP systems.
Add to the fact I am running Vista x64, with the addition overhead that brings.

I was looking around a different posts, and caught tigerbiten talking about XP x64.
I had completely forgotten about that operating system.
I ran to "google" and found so many pages about how bad it was, but I figured it Tiger can do it, I should be able to pull it off.
I was so pleased to see the install and setup go so fast and encountered zero problems with install or finding drivers for my hardware.
I was really shocked it found my SATA drives with no additional drivers.
Usually XP freaked out on that and refused to install.

Go my system up and running in 2 hours, and CPU usage is actually less now then with Vista x64.

This O/S is so stable, even better then Vista or XP x86.
Being based on the Server 2003 helps a little.

Thanks Tigerbiten .. I owe you one ....

i tried xp 64bit.. its a nice os as long as you dont plan to do anything with it.. but i kept running into problems so i went back to 32bit.. and i think ill switch over to vista 64bit here a couple months.. even though i hate vista with a passion i dont want to deal with xp 64bit as an every day OS.. plus id like to see the hype about directx 10.. if its really worth it..

As long as you can find the drivers for all your devices then there's no difference between XP32 & XP64.
I run all XP here as half my hardware won't run Vista.
I cannot get Vista64 Home Premium to load all the 8 GPU drivers needed to drive the quad 9800GX2, where as XP64 Pro does it no problem.
Also a lot of the little addons I use don't have Vista signed drivers.

I may possibly swop my main Skulltrails rig over to Vista just to see what DX10 can do with tri 9800GTX's.
I'm thinking two in SLI mode and one for PhysX.

Luck ........... :D

yeah see that was my problem was finding drivers for everything..

Here lately I've been WCGing and F@H GPU2ing with two Q6600's and one E6600. The Q6600's (quads) use the WinXP 32 bit OS and the E6600 (dual) uses the WinXP64 OS. I use a PNY 8800GT on one quad and a eVGA "double slotted" 96 shader count 9600GSO on the other. The E6600 has a eVGA 8800GS. All my VGA card fans are manually set at 85% or better. :p

I haven't had any problems so far with the WinXP64 OS. I can remember when I first got it I had nothing but freaking problems finding drivers for just the most common hardware. The hardware/software manufactuers have made major progress for anything to do with 64 bit software. I don't know about VISTA 64 bit, but with the WoW deal in WinXP64 and the current 64 bit driver progress the 64 bit windose is "okie doughkie'. ;)

I run Precision, FAHmon v2.3.4, both the console GPU2, the 64 bit WCG BOINC client and the NVIDIA 180.xx driver software 24/7. The only problem I've had with the WinXP64 OS is the mobo chipset driver CD that came with the board. I just went to the mobo support Web site and DL'ed the most current drivers (I have several PCI NIC cards, don't needs no mobo CD LAN drver), for more expensive mobos you probably don't have to even do that  Since I quit with the CPU WinSMP I have had a kind of "peace of mind", in other words I don't have to "baby sit" my boxen for EUE's as much :D

Oh yeah, I have a pretty much open "on the floor" E6420 usin' Ubuntu v8.04 64 bit for another WCG cruncher (every little bit helps, I ain't gots no more "CUDA" capable cards, yet that is )
