Hm. There's a possibility I'm getting rid of my Golden Sample to get a BBATi 128MB 9800Pro. I'm gonna miss this big and powerful Ti4600. With the pretty RAMSinks and everything.

No VIVO on the 9800Pro.

I just hope it'll run Doom 3 better.....

Thoughts on going from Ti4600 -> 9800Pro?

You will see some improvement in speed/image quality but not nearly the drastic change you would experience going to a 6800/X800.. Honestly the Ti4600 is one of the best cards Nvidia has ever made.

I have a Ti4600 and a 9700 standard. The radeon is considerably faster in most games, but currently Doom 3 favores Nvidia cards. I still believe the 9800 Pro will be faster, but a 9800 is not going to be a killer card for Doom 3.

How much are your paying for the 9800 Pro?

Unless its under $200 its not worth it. You can find 6800's for a little over $250 AR and overclocked they easily smoke a 9800 Pro. The 6800nu even runs DOOM 3 nearly as well as the X800XT PE in alot of cases.

There is suppost to be tweak coming out for RivaTuner to unlike the extra 4 pipes on them also so it would just be a matter of finding the ones that dont have dead pipes.

I went from a ti4400 at 300:690 to a radeon 9800pro in my sig and noticed a very large in provement. I can run 1024 x768 at high detail with out any issue. I'm sure if I got around to overclocking my cpu I could get more. I agree though. You shouldnt pay more than 200 for it.

I should be able to cut even with the sale of the Ti4600 and some other parts. I understand Doom 3 really shines with nVidia's cards... but I'm just hoping the 9800Pro will do well.

I've asked around before if Ti4600 -> 5900XT was worth ti... everyone nodded :)

I'm just wondering how come people aren't as enthusaistic with Ti4600 - > 9800Pro. Hm...

I went from a TI4200 128 to a 9800pro 256 and saw a huge improvement in D3. UT2k4 performance shot up as well.

This is only on the newer cards. On "older" cards they are about even. The 9800pro is a full two generations ahead of the gf4.

cause you are jumping ship to them...O God he is going ati..burn him, stone him,......

a 9800 pro will whip a ti4600 in IQ and features..

I have yet to see someone running a 6800 NU outrun my x800 pro in anything....pfff

I guess you dont see OpenGL benchmarks very often lol. :p

Not to mention the 6800nu is a good $150 cheaper then the X800Pro usually.

6800nu 128MB 51.4 fps
X800Pro 256MB 51.6 fps

P.S. The 6800nu is running at a higher resolution lol

Dont make me start pulling out benchmarks for other OpenGL games like Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, Neverwinter Nights, Call of Duty, and so on where the 6800nu is whooping its ass. :p

People have also been able to clock the 6800's up around 400/900 and higher.

i think it would be interesting if they brought out a 6800nu with 256mb memory, and just have the 6800le with 128mb. but i guess it won't happen

Interesting and probably devastating for the X800Pro.

The 6800nu has 12 pipeline stages just like the X800Pro. A 6800nu clocked at 400/900 with 256MB of RAM could give an X800Pro a run for its money.

Went from a Ti4600 to a 9700 Pro, and there is a huge difference in all games, especially with AA/AF enabled. Do not go by Doom 3 benchmarks alone. On the other hand if that's all you intend to play.......then the 6800 or the upcoming 6600GT may be a better choice for the money.

Max Payne 2 @ 1280x1024 - 4xAA/8xAF
Colin Mc Rae 4 @ 1600x1200 - 4xAA/8xAF
Juiced Demo @ 1600x1200 - 4xAA/8xAF

Doom 3..well, I need another thread to explain :D

exactly. although i wouldn't know how much the price would increase. meh nvidia seem to know what they're doingt his round so better just leave it eh?

It's already happened...(Asus?) but still it doesn't seem worth it since the cost is so close to a GT.

i know but if they brought out one still cheaper (by more than $50/£50) than the gt it would fill the gap just a little more pricey that the 128mb

That sounds fux0ring amazing :D Thanks!

As far as i know my old ASUS Geforce TI 4400 is bit faster then my sister's Gigabyte ATI radeon PRO 128mb.

uh.......you dont mean a 9800pro do you??

there is no way a gf4 keeps up with it in any thing save for maybe minesweepr...

Went from a Ti4400 to a MSI 9800 Pro. It a great improvement, although part of me wishes I would have gone with a 6800 GT just because the performance is so amazing. Oh well, maybe I will build another computer soon with an Athlon 64 and a 6800 GT....
