I have a 128MB GeForce4 Ti4200 in my shuttle right now, but i also have an ATI 9600np 128MB laying around.

Which of the two is the best card?

my educated guess would be they are pretty similar but I just wanted to confirm




edit: nevermind, the 9600 is only 64bit

9600 is faster even with the 64bit mem bus + the 9600 is a full DX9 card were the Ti is only DX8

btw: i've been searching for reviews comparing the two for about an hour now with no luck :(
 
the Ti you have is about as good as FX5600 look for 5600 vs 9600 review
 
A 9600np should be 128 bit, only 9600SE should be 64 bit. But perhaps some 64 bit cards are sold without the SE label?
I'd still got for the 9600 anyway, I suppose, because it's a generation higher. So you get faster and better AA, better z/stencilbuffer performance, and higher quality shading.
But perhaps you don't find the 9600 fast enough.
 
i just upgraded the video card in my server from a quadro 2 pro (geforce 2 pro) to a ti4200. from what i understand you need to overclock ti-4200's to get good results out of them.
 
the 9600np is better than the ti4200 in many ways, IQ, speed, and dx9.0 to boot.
 
Its definetly not faster than a ti4200, a 9600XT is hardly faster. The only difference is DX-9 and some image quality.

this is the exact card i have

another thing would be that this card is passively cooled whereas my ti4200 has a thermaltake kit on it and is a little loud for my shuttle
 
Horribe decision of me to put a 9600se in my work rig...after looking at those benches. I am playing HL2 right now at 1024 with nice settings and it runs great, but looks like I could do much better. Maybe the SE will have to have an accident... :D

Actually..now htinking about it. I will just bring in the Ti4200 I am using at home (using it untill my XT/PE gets back from repairs.) It is a great little card :)
