Thunderfx or internal soundcard?

Sup guys,

I'm in the process of upgrading my motherboard and I am looking at the Asus Maximus V Formula/Thunderfx combo. My question is that is the Thunderfx really that good? I haven't seen any reviews that talk about the Maximus V Formula's onboard audio and thunderfx specifically.

My current setup and is pure gaming:

Asus Essence ST >>> Mackie Big Knob Studio Command System >>> Audio-Technica ATH-A900X


Thing is that The Essence ST is PCI (and will be going into my HTPC) and the Maximus V Formula doesn't have any PCI slots. Plus, I'm thinking of selling my Mackie Big Knob. So real question would be should I get Thunderfx or get something along the lines of an Essence STX or the Phoebus?
