I am looking for a new heatsink and fan for my Thunderbird. I think its 1.2 GHz or so. My question is will any socket A heatsink/fan fit? In newegg and many other sites, it lists processor types and speeds like this:

AMD : Athlon ~ 1.4 GHz (Thunderbird)
Athlon MP ~ 2800+ (Thoroughbred)
Athlon XP ~ 3200+ (Barton)
Athlon XP ~ 2100+ (Palomino)
Athlon XP ~ 2700+ (Thoroughbred)
Duron ~ 1.8 GHz (Morgan)
Sempron ~ 3000+ (K7)

The thunderbird is omitted is 90% of the socket A listings. Just wondering if it would fit and was just left out because thunderbirds are old. From waht I can tell, the socket in the thunderbird looks the same as th XP. Thanks for the help.

P.S. I also have a retail heatsink from an XP 3000+. Would this fit in a thunderbird?

Should fit all socket A. You might not have much luck finding one, but I would invest in an aftermarket heatsink.

Yes and no. Since its a socket A hsf it should fit a socket A cpu. However, the original Athlons were sometimes prone to cores cracking during hsf installation. Its all to due with the tension of the retention clip. Mind you, you probably will be fine but just a tad careful
