i was wondering, when you play games from a thumbdrive (quake 3, doom, zsnes emulator,etc...) does it decrease the size of the memory on the chip? i was reading that when you put an OS on a thumbdrive, the writing and rewriting of the memory chip causes it to close out some of the memory and the size continually decreases.

thanks!

Any flash memory has a limited number of read/write cycles. Anywhere from a hundred thousand to several million cycles. So if you are running anything from flash media regularly, it will eventually "use up" the cycles.

It will not be as fast as if the virtual memory from the OS is constantly writing to it, but it will get used up eventually.

Why would anyone in their right ming play a game like Q3 from a thumbdrive? Hard drives are at least 5-10x faster. ZSNES I can see.

well sometimes its fun to go to compusa, plug it in and play and have all the salesmen give you weird looks, especially when your playing Quake 3 on a Disney computer :p

but i notice no real lag when playing Quake 3 from the thumbdrive.
