Thumb Drive data issue

Before I ask my question, is this the right forum to ask about lost data on a USB flash drive?
 
OK... I have a 16Gb OCZ thumb drive that has my install files for all system rebuilds. I use this drive on EVERY system I work on, and it has never had an issue.

However, every time I plug it into a Win7 system, I get the pop-up asking me to scan drive or continue without scanning. I always opt to continue. That is UNTIL rebuilding a laptop for my kids this weekend. I reinstalled the OEM Vista, plugged in my thumb drive to install various software apps, and that typical pop up came up. I'm so sick of seeing it that I decided to just do the scan and get it over with. Well Vista apparently took ALL the files on the drive and named them all "file[incemental number].CHK and stored them all in a folder named FOUND.000

The data size has not changed, all 16Gb is still there (the drive was completely full).

Is there any way to recover these files?? There were system backup files, software install files, TONS of hardware driver files, plus music, photos, pdf's... so much I cant even begin to remember everything on the drive. I can't believe that Vista renamed everything on the drive without even asking me what to do with the files.
