I need to get rid of two old CRT monitors. If you want them you can have them if you can come pick them up. The location is in the Bronx.

The two monitors are:

Dell P990 19": Last I remember the image was slightly fuzzy.
Sony CPD-E500 21": Had a problem with brightness but was solved with COM cable and Sony software. As a plus all the monitor internal values can be adjusted using the COM cable and the right software. This wasn't my personal monitor so I can't tell you if there's anything else wrong.

If nobody is interested, I will just dispose of them.

Sorry, I just want to bump this once. I'll be recycling them if I don't get any responses this week.

Don't know about the Bronx, but here in the "hood" in L.A., all you gotta do is put them on the curb and scavengers will take them in no time at all. Easier than having to take them somewhere and/or pay a recycling fee. ;)

1. Dig a large hole in Central Park
2. Insert monitors
3. Cover up hole

What kind of software and how to use the COM port to fix the brightness issue with the monitor.
mine is CPD-G520 21".

Thanks

You need a RS232<=>TTL converter. You can find them on sale online.
To connect it, you have to take off the case off the monitor, find the service pins and finally connect the cable to the pins. I also drilled a hole in the case so that I could close the monitor and have the cable accessible. Once the cable is connected to your computer you can use 'WinDAS' software to modify a lot of different things (but be careful). If you search for 'WinDAS', I think you can find some sites that explain how to get certain things done using it.

I know it works with my model, but I have no idea if it works with yours.
