I recently purchased a new win 7 i7 system with an ati hd 5970 to run three 30" hp lp3065 dvi-d monitors. I knew that I would need an active adapter to run the third monitor since the card has only two dvi-d connectors and a mini displayport connector. The only mini d to dvi-d adapter I could buy locally was the Apple unit. For the first few days the 3 displays seemed to work ok.

My problem now surfaces during the boot process while selecting a user account or when switching between user accounts. The only thing visible on the three black screens is a white arrow cursor that will move across two of the monitors. If I unplug the adapter the login screen for the user accounts appears and windows works normally. I can even plug the adapter back in at the login screen and all three screens work fine.

Am I having a hardware conflict between the adapter and the displays? Is there something in Windows 7 msconfig that I am missing? I updated to the most recent video driver. If I boot in safe mode, the machine boots and I get one dvi monitor and one displayport monitor with the same image displayed on each. I am about ready to replace the Apple unit with a Accell B087B-003J UltraAV miniDisplayPort/DVI-D Dual-Link Adapter to see if it is a hardware problem.

Thanks in advance for any help.
