Just wondering why some threads are allowed to continue for soooo long after the original post, since after a while, the discussion almost always starts to veer away from the topic that it was originally about & gets soooo overly misdirected it's not even relevant anymore...?

for example:

https://hardforum.com/threads/24-wi...ived-comments.952788/page-491#post-1045933712

It's been going on/rambling on for nearly 10 years/500 pages and almost 20K comments....is this REALLY necessary ?

I know frgmstr brought it up in the "Hot Deals" section a while back.......just sayin :D

This is probably the wrong section for that.

Butttttt:

I think he is already too strict on policing off topic in threads. I believe threads should be just left alone to go wherever the conversation naturally takes them, as long as it is not breaking other rules.

There is something to be said about keeping threads in sections organized and if every thread devolves into the same topic over time then it can get watered down a lot and that can be bad for keeping people active or attracting new people. Its a balancing act.

Yes.. it is a classic...

Discussion forums are on life support as it is.. why be so nit picky and strict on something like this.

It's frustrating when you find a thread with exactly what you're looking for and it's locked so you can't ask a question about it or add some new information that was found on it.

I don't think people should be allowed to lock their own threads. There is no benefit to locking a thread beyond behavior reason that moderators should deal with.

thread about a thread in the news section from a new guy that doesnt seem to know how [H] rolls....
ps: let crts die already.
I'm not sure who this comment was directed at, but hopefully not @me, since I have been here for a long, long time, albeit under a different name...so I am far from being a n00b and yes, I do know how the forums rolls...

If it was directed at someone else, then so be it...... and I agree, CRT's are ugly, inefficient, and dangerous dinosaurs that should have been destroyed many, many, years ago !

Oh, so you were banned and reregged? Bad dog! :p

Please don't ask for more locking of threads. I think letting them flow naturally is just fine. I also agree with sharknice except on fsft threads.

I've googled up answers and solutions in the form on old [H] threads more than once. One time I was even the OP and had forgotten than I had had the issue prior. That was fun :)

I've never really understood all the drama about posting in an older thread. If someone has something new to say, that isnt hate speech or the like, why not? I'm not required to like it, read it or do anything with it.

That said, I am sure there is an opposing viewpoint that I consider just as valid as my own. Please educate me why threads should be closed, locked and new ones (I am assuming) started in their place. Please understand I am not being sarcastic or snide, I am merely curious.

I can delete your account fully if you are not 100% completely satisfied with our free services that we provide to the hardware community. Just let me know that we are not meeting your expectations in how our forums should be operated.

Worth mentioning, you broke the rules by posting this in the wrong sub-forum. Not so sure you actually understand how this works.

Well, just delete the whole thread then, since some members seem to have been offended by it...

I was merely expressing my feelings about those threads that seem to go on & on, but if the powers that be don't care about that, then so be it...........

Sorry about putting it in the wrong sub-forum, but that's something I'm certain others have done from time to time :)
