Thoughts on this PSU

I haven't heard great things about these. What are the specs of the build?
 
Yeah i read the couple reviews on Neegg and it didnt sound to promising

AMD Athlon64 X2 4200+ CPU
Gigabyte GA-MA69GM-S2H AMD 690G mATX Motherboard
8800GT (hoping but not sure)
OCZ Gold 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 800
Seagate 320GB SATA
500GB SATA HDD
Not usre on Media drive(s) yet
 
Not worth it. Are you getting it strictly for the $90 price or the rebate price? Either way, not worth it.
 
Get the Corsair VX450 or if you want something modular since it will probably be in a small case go with the HX520.

Btw what case will you be using for this?

Yeah the only reason was for the price.
 
The XClio Goodpower 500W is a good choice for the money. However, I do recommend going with a better quality power supply due to that 8800GT you have in your build. The Corsair 450VX 450W is a good choice. It actually has more power than the XClio Goodpower on the +12V rail where most PCs get their power from. The Corsair 450VX 450W has 33A on the +12V rail while the XClio Goodpower 500W has only 30A. Also, the Corsair is 80+ efficient meaning that it wastes less power as heat and therefore cutting down on energy costs.
 
Lately lots of deals on coolermaster extreme power supplies
only that line doesn't have active pfc. :(
 
Both are very good choices. Can't go wrong with either choice.
 
Well really the VX450 is enough power for what you have, but the HX520 is what I would choose between the VX550 and HX520.
 
meh I gave him my thoughts. You can get a Cooler Master 650 PCAR (or w/e tf the model is) for $25 AR. That's $40 less than anything "decent" you'll buy. Obviously, right off the bat - it's not really a 650 watt power supply. It's either a rebranded 500-550w seventeam. They make decent, efficient power supplies. This can be confirmed in jonny's review of the 600w variant.

This is going in a mATX psu so it won't have to power dual gfx cards, but being as it has 18A on each +12V line it could anyhow.

So you can save $40 and still pick up a decent, reliable power supply, that has amperage that slides between Corsair 450's 33A and 550's 41A. You're going to sacrafice a bit, not having sleeved cables other than the mobo cable, but save $40-$60 while still having a reliable, efficient psu.
