Thoughts on Ruse?

It looks pretty cool, but coming out on the heels of SC2 has to be the worst window to release an RTS game since Warcraft 3. I really feel for the devs...

Am I the only person here that does not like RTS's in general? It looks like a topnotch game, I'm sure that people that likes this genre of game will be happy.

pretty much right with you there. the only reason i bought warcraft 3 was to play tower defense maps.

LOL

I thought that there might've been a little more enthusiasm for this title, but could Ubisoft have chosen a worse time to have released this? What marketing genius decided to launch this game right in between Starcraft 2 and Civ V?

This one's got Steam sale written all over it.

That said, if you did buy it, let us know what you think.

Exactly. By all accounts it's supposed to be a pretty good game but the release timing simply couldn't have been any worse.

I'm still boycotting Ubisoft over their DRM fiasco so no buy, good or not. I did watch a couple of videos of it on youtube with some idiot doing a play by play of it as if it was a sports game and it didn't look all that interesting anyway.

I might be wrong but I think RUSE dropped the Ubishit DRM. Don't want you to pass up a worthwhile game because of misinformation.

RUSE looked cool, but when I played it, it got boring after 40 minutes. Not fun at all. The cutscenes are pretty cool though.

I feel bad for the devs cause they actually got to push back the release date a few months from its original release due to all the feedback they got during the open beta and they wanted to improve the game. Now it gets released at such a bad time as others have said.

Personally I wasn't going to bother with the game since it is a Ubisoft title even though it is using Steamworks instead of the shitty Ubisoft DRM. I wont support Ubi till they get rid of that DRM system, and I didn't care for the game when I did try the beta out.

RUSE has interesting game elements, but there are few annoying things. The in campaign mode it often takes control away from you to shows you something special on the battlefield, but it does not freeze the time, so your units may be getting owned by the enemy while you're looking at pretty things. That's annoying.

I thought the beta was fun. Very simple concept, intuitive and easy to learn.A casual game. MP can be very exciting with good team and opponents. I feel the gameplay has a more macro feel to it (if that's what you like), but it allows you to focus more on strategy and keeps with the pace of play.

I didn't buy it because I didn't feel it offered growth in itself. It doesn't really feel like a timeless RTS that you will play in the years to come, but it still is a lot of fun.

I tried the demo and it was pretty fun. I do like how resource management is mostly automated, but I don't think it's worth buying right now.

I may pick it up for $25 if the dlc is bundled in, or better yet it not have a dlc.

The beta was good, I did play the demo, but being so short I didn't get a good look at what they improved.
The ruse stuff I thought was a very clever way of dealing with the old 'rock / paper / scissors' RTS games fall into.

But like most have said, between all the good stuff that's coming out, all backlog of stuff from the Steam summer sale, it's hard for me to justify another full priced game right now. Especially since it's on Steam and I know I won't have a problem finding it when I'm ready to pick it up.
