I currently have Mushkin 2x 512MB PC3200 6-2-2-2.0 mem and I was recently given the chance to upgrade to OCZ 2x 512MB PC3200 EL, what do you guys think? Which will overclock better? I have a Prometeia, by the way, so I would want to overclock the bajeesus out of the DDR. Thanks!

Mushkin vs a company that gets in trouble for selling cheap, slower ram as higher clocked stuff (selling 2100 as 2700), for lying about what is in their silver compound (0 silver, vs 99%), and is known for having stability problems... hmm... you decide... :p

OCZ is hardly the ideal company either :D

(You haven't got any other alternatives?)

I wouldn't call going from the best RAM manufacter to the worst an upgrade. Mushkin is the #1 memory manufacter out there. Even better then Corsair and Kingston. OCZ is nothing but marketing ploys and advertisements for RAM that does nothing more then cause errors.

Would be lucky to run the crap at its rated speed error free.

OCZ was the company I was referring to... please note "vs" instead of "is".

Mushkin > *.

Aah. Ugliest-misread-of-the-day-award. :D

well poop....

I don't know whether it's my mem my cpu or my mobo, but I cannot overclock more than 12.5x200 @ 2.1vcore (2500Mhz). Why am I complaining? Because I have a Mach I Prometeia at -50C...$900 pricetag.

Garf, this frustrates me...

Well im gonna take a guess here and say maybe its your processor lol. It doesn't matter how cold you get the thing a processor can only go so far. You've got that thing at like 3800+ or 3900+ speeds lol. Dont complain dude. If you want a better overclocking processor you can get more out of from that Prometia then go buy yourself a Pentium 4c.

How long have you had it running at that speed?

It ain't the memory. Try clocking the memory down and going farther, but that shouldn't be it.

A few weeks.

What is another chip that goes with my mobo (that has at least 512k L2 cache) that can overclock far?

My speeds are about the same as a Pentium 4 3.2Ghz. I have been running the speeds for a week or so.

Thanks peoples!

It's so nice to finally read in a memory thread that everyone is saying the right things about OCZ. My prayers to the computer gods have been answered! See sig.

Some of us have known for a long time... others buy generic, and come here when it dies...

All the Athlon XP's are going to have about the same breakoff point for how high they will go. Its not the multi thats holding you back because the rest of the system clock is just at a normal overclock speed. Buying a 3200+ really wont help things.

I would get yourself an 875p board and a 3.0c or 3.2GHz P4 and push the thing over 4Ghz with that Prometia. At those speeds it will beat what you have running now.
