I feel like its improving a lot and i'm happy about that. I bought 7970x2 at release and was somewhat peeved initially that some games didn't work right (notably Batman: AC) but this has mostly been fixed and I couldn't be happier now. Also -- ME3, Alan Wake, Kingdom of Amalur had day 1 CF support. I also bought GTX 680 sli at release and its a great product, no doubt about it, but I didn't feel like it was an "upgrade" from 7970cf.

Anyway, TT has a review of 4gb 680 sli vs 7970CF @ 1070:

7970CF actually wins more than half of those tests.

Anyway, any else have an opinion on CF support lately? I've been pretty satisfied as of late.
 
I used to have some bad hitching problems. Games would literally pause to load during gameplay, the worst offenders were games like crysis 2 and battlefield 3. But I've beefed up my system a little bit (gave the old cpu, motherboard and ram to the wife for her system) and so far it's been running like a dream.
 
I've been satisfied with my 6950x2 setup - never had a serious issue on this end. Now that you can make your own profiles the drivers are great. The scaling in BF3 is incredible.
 
I havent had any driver issues with my crossfire 6850 or my crossfire 5830 setup. Though i play very few games and the ones i do dont even need it.
 
the latest 12.4 betas certainly unlocked more performance in my tri-fire setup but still get bluescreens when I try to run bf3 with eyefinity. Forcing triple buffering with D3Doverrider certainly helped a lot with the smoothness.

Same setup here and still using 11.12 with zero problems.
 
CF7970's here and am quite happy with them. I feel Skyrim performance has room for improvement, it seems my GPU's both work but % usage is low.
 
IDK, I have yet to try 12.4 mind you, but everything before hand has gotten progressively worse. This is coming from someone who has had top crossfire setups around each card release since the 4800 series. The 7900 series seemed to have the worse drivers to date, and scaling seems to be an issue (mind you I am running at 1080P, but everything maxed AA/AF in most cases) so I shouldn't be having issues where one GPU works 85% and the other only 40%. Seem to get this quite often.

The 3870 to 6970 were similar tech with revisions so im personally not surprised that for the 7900 series its taken a step back for the moment as the code is from scratch.
 
Crossfire drivers will probably continue to improve over the next few months, as AMD has time to work on the relatively small backlog of games that have been released after the holiday season. However, come September, I predict many late and broken crossfire driver releases as the driver team scrambles to keep up with the holiday rush. That's what happened last year -- my first year consistently using crossfire -- and that's why I switched over to one card.

When it works it works great. For some reason the MW2, MW3, and Black Ops for some reason gave me stutter with vsync enabled. Other then that its been great since they added the application support in the drivers.
 
6990+6970 trifire has been running pretty well (BF3 included) Hopefully driver support keeps getting better.
 
Did AMD solve the issues of tearing with eyefinity and stuttering with crossfire too ? :eek: :rolleyes:

There is a solution and has been for a while, you need to use DP interconnects for all the monitors. It's much easier with the 7000 series too since lots of cards have multiple DP ports now such as the msi lighting and etc.

It is not true .

Sadly with the reference design of 7970/7950 , there is no solutions to avoid tearing.

Can you clarify? I've seen posts from others indicating that if you use an improper adapter or use different connects between 3 monitors that you will get tearing.

I have heard that using a proper adapter for 3x displayport 1.2 will fix any such tearing problems. If i'm wrong though, please clarify......surround is something i've considered for future use.

split it into three issues



1: There were/are some adapter/dongle issues with the active vs. passive adapters. Just go with an active adapter, they aren't as much as they used to be so this really is not an issue these days.


2: The main tearing issues which comes from the mix of inputs. Basically you need to be using the same inputs and since you need at least 1 DP you basically need to use all DP inputs. This means getting a card with multiple DP inputs like the direct cu ii 6970 or the 6990. I was happy to see a 7970 lighting with multiple DP ports along with the Direct cu ii 7970 so I suppose vendors are seeing the need for multiple DP ports.


3: This is the whole issue with DP 1.2 and the daisy chain stuff. Basically from what I remember you need DP 1.2 monitors to daisy chain them or a HUB and last I checked no one knew when that was coming.


So if you get eyefinity and don't want tearing (The tearing is more noticeable in portrait configs than landscape but I've never tested this) you need multi DP ports on your MAIN card (main card is where everything plugs into) and you need DP ports on your monitors (I suppose you could get active adapters for each interconnect if your monitors don't have DP, but I've never come across this )

During my 6870CF experience i never had a single issue.
CCC worked as expected for me.
