I am in the market for a new processor and am eyeballing the 2400+. (I have to have the 266 FSB)

At least on newegg's site they have them listed with two different cores.

The "Thoroughbred" & the "Thorton". What is the differences because I don't see anything in thier explanations.

They're pretty much just different cores. The Tbred was the second core after the early XP Palomino cores. The Thorton is the same as the Barton but with 1/2 the cache disabled.

ok then,

what would the advantages be of buying the Thorton over the Thoroughbred?

You could unlock the disabled cache

That would be an option. I assume that would just include some sort of trace connecting or something to that effect?

Are the die sized differently?

Are there any other advantages that anyone can think of?

The prices are about the same for both too...

Since the Thorton is based on the Barton core you have several advantages.

larger die size means for more contact area for better cooling
option to unlock the rest of the cache for a total of 512KB
should have more ovreclocking headroom

how would you go about unlocking the "disabled" cache on a thorton core?
