This temp fine for E6400 OC?

Rig in sig, L2 stepping E6400, intel's site says I can put 1.5v max in this cpu, but the max temp is around 61-62oC. Running 400x8

Way back when I made this OC (year ago? a little more?), the temp never got past 58oC. But just recently, I turned on the orthos, and bam, my temps are now in the 66-68 zone.

Are those temps safe? Voltage has been 1.3750, but I've been trying 1.3650 right now under orthos, see how long it lasts. Doesn't seem to be running too much cooler between the two voltages, if at all. The 1.3750 was 4hr+ stable under small FFT's in orthos back when, checking to see if it has changed now too.

Those temps shouldn't be a problem but I would try to lower it since it is getting close to 70c. Have you tried reapplying the thermal compound? Using thermal paste such as MX-2 will help also.
 
There is AS5 under there, but the heatsink does rotate a little. Not sure if the AS5 set up back then, then I moved the heatsink and it broke contact or something.

Still not real happy about the temps, but I'm too lazy to pull off that heatsink :p
 
the temps are perfectly fine for running ortho's.. even at 70C full load in ortho's most you will probably see is 60C full load on a normal multi-threaded app..

Temps are ok but it is still on the high side. There's no reason why anyone should have temps that reach 70c at load with an E6400 mildly oc'd to 3.2ghz.

Sure you can leave it as is, but you have the chance to improve temps by as much as 10c if the OP reapplied the TIM and remount heatsink.

Removing unnecessary heat = reducing unnecessary stress and wear and tear on your cpu.

Just want to share this, but my e6600 at 3.54ghz that's using a Scythe Ninja Mini (HTPC cooler) does not reach 60c at full load during orthos (small fft) testing and it's sitting inside a HTPC which doesn't have the greatest airflow.

So to the OP, you definitely can do better, but you can leave it as is if that's your choice.

I know I can do better, and I use to do better. I know I'm stressing it more than I should, and no way am I saying I have good temps, and I know what I could do to fix this, but it does not make it not a pain to do still :p
