Hey guys, my new pc is running smooth as hell, but when i turn it on, it takes about 2-3 minutes to get to the welcome screen to log-in, and sometimes it will restart on me randomly.. It is SOOOOOO annoying.. Maybe I should just wait for windows longhorn.. Or do oyu know where I can get the 64-bit windows?? My windows cd might be messed up.. like a few files, it is scratched like hell.. Any other suggestions?? Maybe links to windows 64-bit?? Fixes?? Other people with issues??

Amd 64 3400+
Abit AV8 Mobo
Geforce 6600GT
500 Watt Aspire PSU
1GB Ram

that's a pretty cheap PSU you have. Asipres aren't known as being the greatest PSU's on the market. BUT, I think you have an IRQ conflict. If you have a sound card, disable onboard sound; if your using a network card, disable the onboard network....etc...

Is this a brand new OS install?
Did you install the drivers for the motherboard?

Brand new install.. I reformatted and it came right up, but then after something happened.. like a few dayslater, it just went back!!

I installed my sound driver.. that is all i think I need.. M windows disk is scratched, that may be it.

Turn off the auto-restart on failure in System Properties -> Advanced -> Startup & Recovery.
That way if its giving you a nice BSOD you will be able to read it.

Luck......... :D

Swirly, swirly, swirly. I love your comic posts.

It has nothing to do with Windows itself. It’s clearly a hardware issue. I don’t know why you get all over with other topics such as Longhorn and Windows XP 64-Bit Edition. If your installation completed, it’s more than likely that everything from the CD was copied appropriately.

First off, your PSU is just bad. As we have told you a while ago, replace your PSU! But you didn’t! The long loading time just might have to do with your hard drive or perhaps very buggy RAM. Perhaps your CPU has never gotten enough power as it needs. When it does random restarts, it’s a sign of not enough power. Replacing the PSU just might fix your problems!

Now shush with your funny posts and do it. KTHX! :p

what kind of ram? i hope not generic, but thats what it sounds like since you didnt list a brand name - its probably teh ram/power supply

Half the crap you guys told me last time building my pc was wrong.. I replaced my ram, it is brand new OCZ, the power supply is fine, its not a hardware issue... It just started happening.. It was working fine, I never touched hardware... It says driver issue.. Therefore signs of restarting is rarely hardware.. It is usully driver issue.. but Thanks lol..

it sounds like its looking for something. Maybe a jumper on your optical or hard drive isnt set or your BIOS hasnt detected the appropriate hardware.

you answered your own question.....good job!! here i'll quote you again to confirm which part of the previous post had the answer.... "It says driver issue.. "

lol.

P.S. and just cause your PSU was working fine doesn't mean something isn't slowly going bad. i would try a different PSU from someone else's computer and only run the components you need if it's a weaker one. This will single it out and make the PSU not a factor for sure . matter of fact, just unplug the components you don't need to boot up right now and see what happens.

Incidentaly windows is retarded and when you have shitty power and you CPU, vid card and ram run like shit , window's limited vocabulary says "you have a drvier issue" Replace that piece of shit PWS before you loose your rig and maybe your living quarters do to a fire caused by that PWS going south

End of rant

If I'm haveing fun and games with a computer restarting I always start but checking the hardware out first.
I will strip it down to minimum spec and then stress test it.
3 loops of Memtest86 then a few hours of Prime95 then add a couple of loops of 3dMark on top of Prime.
While I run the test I will keep a check on Temps & Voltages.
If it passes all test I will rebuild it and restress test it.
Then run a full hard drive diagnostic for luck.
If it fails any test it will give me an idea where to go, what to look at next.
If it passes all hardware tests then its on to checking software, updateing drives, ect.
If all software checks out then it reinstall Windozes and retest.

Luck........... :D
