My dads Dell after 7 years is finnaly dieing and he needs a new pc pretty fast. He needs a new pc that can multitask pretty good, with programs like MS Office 07, when it comes out. Photophop, a Genealogy research program, and video chats over the net. Aslo be able to run Vista Home when it comes out. I think of going with a Intel Core 2 duo E6300 setup, but this will be my frist time build an Intel system and wondering if this is a good setup.

I alredy got A Case, a Coolmax 500w PSU, a Segate SATA 200MB HD and NEC DVD-R, all from onlines deals over the last few months. So I was wondering if this is a good build. Im open to any suggestions. also any bought anything from clubit.com before they pretty good?

Not bad. Fine for what your Dad will use it for. Though might I suggest cheaping out even more and go for a single core A64, and use the $ savings towards more RAM (1GB will suck with Vista) and/or a larger HD. If he doesn't play games or encode video that dual core is overkill. Not matter how much multitasking he does.
 
I'd say even a sempron would be fine.

Get as much ram as possible, the processor won't matter much.
 
If your dad multitasks then definitely get a dual-core. I would get him an X2 3800+ and a cheap stable mobo.

It's a much cheaper solution because the processor, mobo, and ram are a lot cheaper than a C2D setup.
 
One of my test Vista computers at work is a P4 1.8 (No HT) with 512MB of RAM. Always test on lesser and same hardware as your clients will be using, after all.
It runs faster than XP does on that machine, although with more CPU usage.

I've seen maybe 2 posts on this entire forum that even speak correctly about how Vista manages RAM, it's not as brutal as people make it seem. It shows more RAM used, but all it takes us opening a program or two to see how fast Vista gives it up and how well it manages it.

On the actual average office hardware, P4 3.0 HT with 1GB of RAM, it's more than fast enough for office tasks that you're looking to be used. My only worry would be how much Photoshop can eat up when you're doing multiple high-res images at once.

There's nothing wrong with what you have, and it's definitely a future proof solution as DDR2 is going be easily available for a long time. You can always add more later. In a general non-OC office use machine, it's perfectly acceptable to fill all the RAM slots with an upgrade later.

As for clubit, I have never purchased from them. I generally buy from newegg, zipzoomfly, and mwave.
