Today is physicist Stephen Hawking’s 68th birthday. The ALS-stricken man has defied all odds by not only living far longer than most medical expectations but by also thriving while dealing with the disease. Happy birthday, sir!

Though naturally predisposed to mathematics, young Hawking switched to physics, because University College at Oxford did not offer the discipline. He turned out to be pretty good at physics, too. From there, Hawking moved on to Cambridge to do his research in cosmology.

He's my role model. He shows us that no amount of disability can stop anyone from achieving their dreams and succeed at it. I'm deaf and I am an IT Manager and proud of it.
