Im trying to fix this comp for a friend and I cant figure out whats wrong.

Its a Compaq computer (yea, i know) but when you turn it on nothign happens. I thought maybe it was the bios, so I cleared the CMOS, but still happens. Then I thoguht it might be the video card, switched it out, and still happens.

Only thing I ccan think of is it was stuck by lighting and the computer is f******* (it smells weird too, like smoke)

If anyone can give me some advice, id really appreciate it.

woops sorry, shuld have clarified it.

it turns on but nothing happens. THe green light comes on in the front, and I can see the fans and stuff moving
 
wow, i feel like a moron.......but...

what do you mean reseating the CPU?
 
OMG i figured it out and you will never believe what it was.


the serial cable that goes to the HD was on wrong LMFAO i fixed it and it boots up.
