A few days ago, while reading a webpage, my screen froze for a second, it posted some garbage to the screen, and all my text got blurry (webpage text, address, basically everything). I have a samsung 172T lcd with a leadtek 6800NU. After about half an hour, my pc posted some garbage to the screen again, and the text became normal again. My pc has been doing for 1-2 times a day for the past 3 days. If I reboot, the problem goes away, but eventually happens again. I originally had the 4 extra pipes and 1 extra VS enabled on my card. I dissabled them today, but it happened again. Is this a video card problem, or lcd problem? I should add that nothing is overclocked when this happens. I've played some CoD lately, but haven't noticed it while playing (although it could have happened since its hard to see). tks

Have you tried hooking it up to a different monitor?

Other than that my only guess would be maybe you have a loose/damaged fan somwehere that may be malfunctioning and causing your card to overheat.
 
I think you're starting to have the problems I've had for the last 2 months. I suggest you uninstall your drivers, run driver cleaner a few times, then reinstall and see what happens.
 
I thought about it overheating, but this is happening in windows. The gpu is at 50-55degrees and ram at 35. If it was heat, I'm sure it would have shown up in games, since I overclock my card to 400/900 (only overclocked in games, not windows). I just uninstalled the drivers, ran driver cleaner and installed the omega's based on the 61.77 drivers. One other weird thing that I've noticed is that my cursor blinks funny while writing posts at hardocp. It'll blink a few times normally, then once in a while, it kind of fades while blinking. kind of hard to explain, but its acting funny.
 
my 6800gt did this once about 3 days ago. I was surfing the net and it seemed to freeze up then it started working but the screen was all garbled looking. so I rebooted and it worked fine. I also clocked it down to stock speeds since then. It hasnt done it again so I have no idea what this is.
 
Sounds like a problem we were having with our GT's.... does it happen right out of games? The problem seemed to be inability to set 2d vrs. 3d ram clocks. Coming out of games the voltage drops, the chips are warm, and they are still expected to do over 1GHz of GDDR3 goodness. Don't have the problem often so I haven't bit the bullet. Some guys seem to have had luck with bios editting so 2d volts is same as 3d volts.
 
actually when mine happened i was just browsing the net, never played any games that night.

I don't think it's 2d vs 3d clocks anymore. I'd fiddelled around with my voltages, underclocked, you name it, nothing helps. It got so bad that the welcome screen in XP was garbled and the systemw as rebooting. Had to go to VGA mode, uninstall drivers, run driver cleaner a few times, reinstall fresh drivers and it FINALLY started working again. However I still get some garbling when changing resolution in 2d mode. I'm not sure what is cuasing this problem, but it's partly driver related.

BTW, this is The Batman, if you need flash intructions I've got them.

edit: and yes, this problems ONLY occurs in 2d modes...typically when surfing the net....never happens while playing games.

I caught up with your istructions in the other thread... thanks for that. I think I may try the rev4 eVGA bios if I have the problem again. I noticed the lack of 2d ram clocks and was not a fan before I ever had a problem so not much to lose. I noticed you tried rev3.

I'm actually hoping PCIe will hit AMD within the next few weeks I have to "trade-up" with eVGA. Reason it is still bone stock at the moment.
 
I've had the problem happen right after booting windows, without having played any games. It doesn't seem to be related to game playing.
 
Well...

There is always the unfortunate possibility that your OC has sent your card on its way to an early grave... It ain't pretty, but it's possible :(
 
Actually, since I've installed the new drivers, haven't had the problem! so far so good. Lets hope it stays that way!

yup that is what seems to happen to most cards today. ( i kinda left mine stock.
