So I was looking at my gaming rig, 2x 8800GTX already inside. So in order to keep the current performance and get hardware physic accelerated benefit I'd have to do 2 things.
-Lose a PCI slot
-Purchase another 8800GTX
On the flip I would gain little to no frame rate in most games going from 2-way SLi to 3-way because I am not fortunate enough to own a 30 inches display, I run 1680x1050.I would also lose a PCI card, in fact the only thing left would be a PCIe(x1) slot.I would have to either got with a PCIe soundcard and lose my X-Fi, I know what you're thinking, and no, I'm not going onboard for gaming no friggin way!
The amount of hardware physic gpu titles is non-existant at the moment...I mainly blame nvidia for poor piss motherboard design and 2 slots wide vid cards but hey, I'm pretty sure there is a perfect explaination for all that
Ageia is pretty much dead right now, so where do we go from here? I think we go the same way we did 3-4 years ago, we go for cheap physic simulation instead of pushing for the real thing. The market is weird atm if you ask me, faster gpu? We pretty much have everything we need atm to run 99% of the games, more cores? No games were developed, well a few but even those few weren't pushing the envelope...Soundcards? 7.1 ain't enough? we settle for OpenAL no?
So what is lying ahead what's exciting atm?
