Third IDE channel boot drive issues?

I have a question on the third ide channel.

Seagate Barracuda SATA 80GB on the SATA1 port.

Board is a P4P800SE, writer and cdrom on the secondary channel.

When in enhanced mode, the sata drive shows up in the third ide channel.

The problem is intermittent, windows will sometimes not boot. It will show the logo, the status bar (blue) loading windows then reboot. It can't get into safe mode or any of the other options available when you hit f8 It just reboots, then sometimes it will work like nothing happened.

memtest runs clean, cpu temps are around 45C (3.0E prescott) stock cooler (its booting, not much of a load temp), seems ok for temps, ide tests, chkdsk (when placed in another computer) runs clean, drive fitness tests show no problems with the drive. Nothing "seems" corrupted on the drive as in I was able to make a backup of 18gb of the relevant data onto another drive in windows with no issues.

My question is does windows have an issue booting off the third ide channel?

run a dft on the hd maybe a bad boot sector or try moving the hd to another sata port to verify problem
