I have an older 9 cell battery (FRU: 42T4912) for my older T series that's apparently compatible with:
EDGE 14
EDGE 15
L410
L412
L510
L512
SL410
SL510
T410
T410i
T510
T510i
W510

I was wondering if I could reuse it if I bought a T520 and T530? I'm suspecting it may work because the current battery on lenovo.com:

http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/....detail?GroupID=460&Code=0A36303#.UKKDbJswaL4

appears to work for the same models:
T410/20/30, T510/20/30, W510/20/30, L Series

and more some more recent ones. I suspect I'm not seeing the compatibility for newer Thinkpads with my FRU because it was made before they came out. I'de really like to reuse my other battery because it could save me a bit of money.

I don't think it will. The new battery is backwards compatible with older models, but the old battery is not compatible with newer models. Kind of how you can play Gamecube games on the Wii, but not Wii games on the Gamecube.
