i'm gonna try to take out the deadspot by mounting an empty 80mm fan frame between the hs and my current 80mm cpu fan. i have 2 questions:

1. will this help with the temps?
2. will the extra leverage create a dangerous amount of weight, that might pull the hs right off the cpu?

An 80mm fan frame shouldn't add more than a few grams to the total wieght.

Will it help?
Trial and error is all I have to say.

well i did it... i'm too lazy to post pix cause the results weren't too impressive.

on my 40cfm fan, i got next to no difference in temps. on my 32 cfm coolermaster however, i got a 2c drop in idle temps. (this is all done under minimal system airflow, i only have 1 side intake and thats it).

so you see, this mod will probably work better if you have better airflow. heh heh, so i'm down a generic 80mm fan that came with the case. not too big of a lose considering i still have 2 spare 80mms lying around.
