hey im thinking about a p4 system maybe... cuz i want pci-e re... wat do u think of this...

Mobo - Abit Aa8xe - $175
CPU - P4 530 3.0ghz - $177
Memory - Corsair or Kingston (1gb)2X512mb ddr2 533 - $255
Video card - gigabyte geforce 6600 gt pci-e - $184
Case - Dunno which 1 but - $50
Harddrive - hitachi 160gb sata $95
dvd burner - 16X + Dual Layer burning , $90

= $1026

any comments or suggestions?
 
Seems kind of weird.

I'm assuming you want the i925XE for the 1066 MHz system bus and 64-bit support? The motherboard and RAM are a pretty big chunk of your budget, proportionally. That's okay, if you want to buy for the future, right now. I guess you'll pay for that peace of mind.

I don't know, perhaps you're not much of a gamer, but the focus seems on the processor. Could you go over what you want from this computer?

That DVD burner price is quite high. You should look into the NEC ND-3500A, which runs in the low 70s and has all of the features you mentioned.

I think you might be on the right track, but you really didn't say what you wanted the computer for.
