Thinking about getting a PS3

Well that didn't take long did it. Here comes the battle of the exclusives.

If you're comparing the relative merits of two consoles that share many titles, the obvious place to start is a list of the exclusives.

Also, don't forget WipeoutHD. Excellent game, very slick 1080p visuals at 60fps, fantastic music and custom soundtrack support, and excellent online multiplayer.

I have both. I'm not going to say one is better than the other, but I get more use out of my PS3 than my xbox. Don't really know why, it's just that way. I try to buy equal amounts of games for both ( have more 360 games than PS3) but still PS3 gets more use.

* sigh *

This forum used to be the one place you could avoid all this fanboy shit... provided you stayed out of the process / graphics cards forums. :)

My launch PS3 is going strong. Much better build quality than the competition.

Killzone 2 is another upcoming exclusive.

If you can find one and want backwards compatibility, the 60GB is the "best" as it has the complete feature-set of the original PS3's. I'm sure you can find a 40GB somewhere at a discounted price. But as of now, the 80GB and 160GB are the only two still being produced.

Good games? Its all up to what you are wanting to play. I have and suggest these games:
MGS4, Resistance 2, NHL09, Stardust HD, and a few others that I can't remember. :p Heard plenty of good things about Wipeout HD as well.

I've heard rumors of a Twisted Metal being developed for the PS3 and can't wait for it but it looks like it won't be out for a good while now.

They have everything. A real EE + GS in the hardware, all the card reading slots, SACD capability, and the beefiest heatsink/cooling. Only downside is they use the most power and are reportedly louder at max fan speed. It's a tank. Sold for $600 at a loss.

my 60gig isn't that loud and I use it a lot, at least I think I do.. but than again, I like to play aloud so maybe I don't hear my PS3 crying for air which it has plenty to absorb anyway. :)

True, but no one wants a comparison and no one really cares. Even a comparison turns into subjective bickering over why Gears of War is better or worse than Resistance. Ultimately, just another excuse for fan boys on both sides to have another battle ground.

well, to be fair, resistance 1 does suck a lot. cant tell you how many ps3 games ive bought and returned just because they were horrible.

and no, the new ps3 controller is not the old ps1 controller. my biggest issue with it are the r2/l2 buttons. the angle of the button depression is horrible. fingers slip off of it all the time. still, my launch ps3 is still going, even though i dont really make it go much.

the second someone says something else sucks and something else is better, its like all these douches come running out of the woods with torches and pitch forks.

"bla bla bla, you are a fan boy. rabble rabble, you cant make statements without supporting evidence, and even if you do, we will just say that your arguments are biased and dumb".

IN MY UN-BIASED OPINION, i believe that the ps3 offers many games that the xbox simply does better and cheaper. having owned a ps1/2 for years and years and years, i believe that my opinion is both valid, rational, and reasonable.

its just fucking stupid that all your pricks expect me to put "in my opinion" before i post anything.

seriously, you people need to chill with the flames.

Quoted from Droc's post
Your offensively biased Xbox fanboi-ism makes me glad you play on live and not PSN.

I love your controller comment. Im not saying your a moron, but your comments are

cheers.

Dear Droc
if you seriously dont see any difference between the ps1/ps3 controllers, i think you may want to get your brain checked.

weight/pathetic 6-axis thing (which broke on my 2nd controller within a week)/r2,l2 buttons.

but thanks for being insulting. not like theres enough people like you all over psn and xbox to make me want to pull my headsets off whenever i game online on any system.

cheers to you too mate.

Easily sorted if you do a bit of research. you need some Giotech Pro Triggers

Regarding weight.....most of us have moved onto a Dualshock 3.....your weight complaint becomes a non issue then.

umm where can i buy those?

Yea, I can't stress this enough. When my PS3 broke (some fan inside stopped working = overheat), I too lost my save files. But I also forgot my PSP works like a flash drive. Now everything is backed up and goes where ever my PSP goes.

wait, why can't you pull your HD out and send it in?

My 60 gigger is pretty loud, especially when playing discs.

my 40gig is louder when playing games than my pc(with fan controller) is when idle.

both at idle, both silent. ps3 playing movies, still silent. i'm not using a dB meter though.... so it's still subjective.

pc playing games... well, everything's overclocked ridiculously so i crank the fans.

the noiseyness is never drive related, for me.

Neither of my PS3 60GB's are really loud. At least they haven't been so far. (Use one for gaming and the other for a media center)
I will look into buying the DS controllers tho as i'd like to have at least one for gaming...:p
As someone said, get what you like and not what everyone else suggests. If the 360 has the games you want, then get it. The same goes for the PS3.
To be fair, the PS3 is getting some good games for it now so hopefully it will be a non-issue in the future. But then again it's a matter of personal choice really.

My 360 is louder at idle than my 60GB PS3 at load. Let me give you a hint, the PS3 likes it better when standing vertically than sitting horizontally. The hot air goes up directly when the PS3 is standing up vertically.

Even so, they're still "digital" inputs in that the rear buttons are in an on/off state, as opposed to being "analog" inputs in that the rear buttons have varying degrees of depression.

edit: On second thought.... I recall reading somewhere that the L2 and R2 buttons were pressure sensitive. That remedies the situation somewhat, but you still lose a degree of control. I've never been terribly good with pressure/touch sensitive buttons anyways (it sometimes takes me two minutes to turn off my darn monitor).

I contacted teh company and they are based out of England under a different name. The sell them through amazon.com exclusively under teh giotech name. They are on back order though until the middle of December :( I at least have my order in! As long as I have them before Killzone2 and GT5 I am good :D

cool thnx i will be placing a order as well

Well according to Sonys Customer Care, it wouldn't work. HD's get associated to specific systems. Formatting is different depending on the model. Basically, even if I took it out and stuck it in a new one, the new PS3 would have to reformat it to be able to use it. So stuff would still get lost. Back up stuff that is important to you.

Are you making the jump just out of spite? For a $94 repair (or $200 new replacement) vs. a $400 for a new console and $$ to replace your existing library.

in short, yes.

I went over to gamespot. com and looked up the table that shows all PS3 games and I sorted it so it showed the highest scored games 1st.

I was surprised to see that almost ALL of the games that scored high for the PS3 are also available for the xbox360.

So then I began to think, "which console were these games designed for 1st?".

Is it fair to say that if a game was developed 1st for the xbox360 and then ported to the ps3 it would look better on the xbox360?

I'm thinking of just repairing the xbox360, I really didn't see that many exclusives for the PS3. What are some good games on that system that aren't available on the xbox360?

MGS4, Uncharted, Valkyria, LBP, GT5:p, Resistance, Rachet and Clank, Heavenly Sword are my top favourites.

I bought mine to play MGS4, but I must tell you I am staying for LittleBigPlanet...it is hands down one of the best games I have ever played, and that is a huge list to pick from. Purely brilliant, and the more popular this game becomes the larger the community gets and the better user created stuff you will see...reason enough for a PS3, and those other titles the previous guy stated.

:D

I've watched a couple of video clips of LBP and I must say it does look a lot like fun. Reminds me a little bit of Super Mario Bros.

It's Super Mario Bros. on crack. It has the same addictive-inducing gameplay, but with the level creation tools it comes with, the possibilities are nigh endless. It is the first game in a looooooong time I've been able to sit down with my wife and kids to play, and have a simply fantastic time for the whole evening.

As others have said, MGS4 is a great title as well, with very high marks for design and story. Online play is a lot of fun as well.

I also am playing Dead Space on the PS3, and it's fabulous. One of the best games of the year IMHO.

Good luck with the decision.

MGS4, Uncharted, Valkyria, LBP, GT5:p, Resistance, Rachet and Clank, Heavenly Sword are my top favourites.

To continue with the downloadable titles:

Ratchet and Clank:Quest for Booty
The Last Guy (on sale too)
Super Stardust HD
Everyday Shooter
WipeoutHD
Pixel Junk Monsters
Pixel Junk Eden (on sale)
Gran Turismo 5 Prologue
Warhawk
PAIN
Echochrome (on sale)
Linger in Shadows (interactive art)

I own all the above titles and do not regret a single purchase of any of them.

PAIN is shockingly bad... echochrome is more frustrating than fun. The rest are good though.

Most of the downloadable games really need an HDTV to be enjoyed. I had a hard time reading and even viewing the game "The Last Guy" on my 27" SDTV

So gt5 is a good pickup? Last gT I really played was 3 and I played that a lot. Just haven't gotten around to picking a new one up and there seems to be so many different racing games out there.

Yeah, just bear in mind that it's no-where near as fully featured as the normal GT games.

As an owner of both consoles, my 360 is used a lot more than my PS3. I use the PS3 mostly for movies.
