Thinking about getting a Canon 20D

I found a deal on a Canon 20D with the 18-55mm kit lens for $575. It was used in a small studio and as a wedding camera. The seller still has the box, manuals, CDs, etc.

It was recently sent to Canon for factory cleaning and testing. It was used once to shoot one wedding since. The LCD was replaced by Canon as well.

I used to have a Nikon D50 right after they came out. I liked it but didn't use it much. For work, I regularly use a D2Hs, D2X and D2Xs (although with mostly Sigma lenses, sigh).

I sold the the D50 and went to a point and shoot camera. I just miss all the features of dSLR for personal use. My wife used it to take a lot of photos during our last vacation and they didn't look too much better than a disposable camera.

I did find the setup difficult but I can adjust. I've only shot with Nikons so of course its going to be a bit different.

I may try to talk the seller down to around $500 since its been used quite a bit even though its really clean and looks well taken care of. Plus I'm going to go back by to take some shots outside since thats mainly where I'll be shooting anyway.

Although there is no real way to actually know, how many actuations do they say have run through it?

Seems like a decent enough deal, it would be stellar if you could get it down to around $500. I picked up mine with ~6500 clicks and a Nifty Fifty (Canon 50mm f/1.8) and a 2gb card for $500 off the POTN forums. If you know and use Nikons on a regular basis then that is what you should stay with. However, if you are looking to do the switch then the 20D is a great starting place. I picked mine up about a month ago and LOVE IT. Great and capable camera for the price. If it has been serviced by Canon recently then the $575 is probably well worth the money.

er well a couple of things came up in the way of me getting the camera. i just emailed the seller to see if she still has it.

i uploaded one of the photos I took to flicker to check how many clicks...about 18.5k.

if she has it i will probably buy it and in a couple weeks buy a 70-200 f/4 L

if my laptop sale falls through Ill have my 70-200/4L up for sale. Hate to do it, but might need to.

I just picked up a 20D to replace my 10D 2 weeks ago. $575 is a bit high to me since the kit lens isn't really worth anything. a good used 30D is just a tad more and has the larger screen.
I'd say a mint condition 20D body should be about $400.
