And I haven't bought computer parts in 5 years, so I'm so far behind its stupid, that's why I'm asking for help:

1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Gaming. Mostly iRacing with triple screens pushing 5930x1080(I think thats the rez, I'll check and adjust later if required)
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
$2344.41 (odd number because I have a case picked out already)
That is for everything, tax, shipping, parts.

Amazon product ASIN B00YJJBFIO )
3) Which country do you live in? If the U.S, please tell us the state and city if possible.

Texas
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.
CPU
Motherboard
RAM
Cooler (water cooling prefered)
Video card (Nvidia only)
SSD
Power supply

5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
Monitors
Keyboard
Mouse
Headphones/microphone
6) Will you be overclocking?
I'd rather not
7) What is the max resolution of your monitor? What size is it?
Running triple 23 inch. Using NVSurround I run at a bezel corrected 5930x1080 for iRacing
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
Sooner rather than later.
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? eSATA? Onboard video (as a backup or main GPU)? UEFI? etc.
I'm open to any options.
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If so, what OS? Is it 32bit or 64bit?
If you can find me a Win 7 Pro I'll do good naughty things to you.

Is iRacing very CPU dependent? Can it utilize multiple cores? I ask because you have the budget for a 6-core Intel CPU w/ 980 Ti GPU which is a lot of computer, but if iRacing isn't heavily multi-threaded then you'll benefit more from a higher clocked quad core.

What is your current system specs? Game settings? FPS?

Most likely you'll be recommended an Z170 platform w/ 6700K or 6600K (or the non-overclock versions) with 16+ GB DDR4, nice sized SSD then a 980 Ti powering the displays.

I think it is since it's a sim doing millions of math equations for the sim. I could be wrong

The 6700K build is good but I'd def switch out that Corsair PSU for something like an EVGA Supernova G2.

And that motherboard is ridiculously overpriced. I'd pick something else in the $250 range.

Also, I think people recommend MX-4 instead of AS5 these days....

PC Hound - Build a PC in Seconds

There ya go.

So after talking to someone on here pretty extensively, I think the x99 is best for me. I know the clock speed is slightly slower, but there are more cores, so I think this is what I'm going with.

If I could get a compatibility check and any opinions about it, I'd appreciate it.

Also worth noting, is that I stream while racing, so that's something to consider too

Sorry, been busy.

Since you are streaming while gaming you'll benefit from the extra cores. Just because it's a simulation though doesn't mean it can or even will utilize all cores. In fact, my brief research on the game claims it didn't take full advantage of multiple cores, but those posts/articles were from sub 2013. So they might have updated the engine by then, no idea.

You do not need any thermal compound. The stock stuff that's included with those coolers will be more than plenty. Plus they aren't conductive and do not require extensive cure times.

If I had the game I could benchmark it on my two systems. I've got a last generation i5 and a 5820k rig with 970s, 980 and a few 980 Ti's to play with. Don't have three monitors, but I do have a 4K TV that can stress it pretty well.

That Amazon build looks good. Little overkill on the PSU, but meh. Who cares?

Do you plan to run more than one GPU?

Iracing still doesn't utilize more cores very well. And I do not plan on running more than one GPU simply because iracing hates multiple GPU's. It's a bit mellow dramatic of a program.

I think I'm just going to go with the skylake. It should be able to stream and iracing just fine. I did it once on my current i5

Well other than the over priced RAM it's a solid build.

Not sure which system you ordered. I use my rig primarily for iracing and I can confirm better performance when streaming with more threads (went from 2500K to 4790K) and less issues with a single card (680 FTW 4gb SLI to 980 TI). I assume more cores will be even better (maybe even with hyperthreading off) especially if you are running several background apps for iracing like I do (sim commander, iSpeed, Z1 dashboard, DashMeterPro Server,... and so on in addition to OBS or XSplit).

ENJOY!

And, def get a 1080 since it fits within your budget!!

(pics of completed build please, should be a beaut.)

So, how are you going to spend the money you have leftover after getting a gtx 1080? You know, sure up your sim rig a bit with a new wheel, or add SimVibe and some buttkickers? Or some DSD button boxes? Or hiDef camcorder and capture card? Lol!
