Thinking about adding a second D5?

I have been toying with the idea of adding a second D5 pump in series. I could use one of the hard drive brackets mounted to the top rear of case fan. Or I could use both brackets one on each fan and mount a pump on each. I could then move the Res up higher to gravirty feed the lower pump. I have been playing with this configuration:

Res>lower pump>upper pump>rad>Storm>Maze4>Res


Would the extra heat dump be worth the extra flow?

I have cleaned the wiring up since this picture was taken so now it does not look as bad.

To answer the question yourself, try turning down the speed on your existing pump and see if you notice a difference. My guess is that you probably won't. I can tell you that when set to 5, two 655's do generate enough heat to warm your rad up above ambient. I know this because I added a second 655 to my rig this weekend and while leak testing, the rads got warm.

My reason for adding the second pump was because I also added a 120m radiator to the loop. I'm running the pumps with the dial set between 3 and 4 (less noise and heat) and things are working great. The added benefit is that if one pump fails, the second one will be ebough to keep things running.

He's using a PA120.3 with 6 fans in push/pull... not a PA160 with an additional 120 rad. He should be just fine with that second D5.
 
Abso. The PA120.3 has heat dissipation capacity "to spare".

However, it's questionable whether you'll see any chnage on your CPU probe. The upgrade may very well equate to a <1C drop in die temperature.

The balancing act that must be performed when planning such upgrades is tricky at best, but there's no question that you'll see some performance increase even if you can't validate it with your means of temperature monitoring.
