Thinking about a new display. How about using an HDTV?

I have a combo home-theater / gaming room with HD satellite TV and my PC listed below. Since my 24" monitor's VGA port just died, I was looking at this sony XBR 37", thinking that would make a nice upgrade. http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDetail.do?oid=215618

They also have a 32" of the same style for about $200 less, which might be more practical, considering pixel pitch for PC use. I'm not real worried about pixel pitch though. If it's huge, that means I can just sit back farther to do my reading.

But I do have a few newb questions to ask:

1) My current 24" has an MVA panel in it, and provided excellent color reproduction. Response time isn't bad either. How will an HDTV (specifically the Sony XBR series) compare in terms of color quality, and response time?

2) Does "game mode" really matter?

3) Am I stupid for even considering a HDTV as my monitor?

I've considered dumping the ~1200 on a Dell 30" Ultrasharp. But, I hate the idea of running a 2560x1600 resolution. I already have enough headache buying video cards for 1920x1200.
