Thinking About A Gaming PC

I'm a life long Mac user, so this whole "building a computer" thing seems a little odd to me, however. I was toying with the idea of building up a small gaming pc with a powerful graphics card, instead of buying a PS3. I would use it SOLELY for gaming. I already have a kick ass media center in a Mac mini, and a Mac Pro for my main computer, and a MBP for portable. This is just a PS3 alternative. So I was thinking about what I'd want in such a machine, and here's what I came up with: basically a Mac mini with a PCI slot. 2x2GB of DDR3 RAM SO-DIMMs, two slots would be fine. A single 2.5" HD bay that I'd throw a small SSD in. A slimline optical drive. A single processor, probably a 2.6GHz or so C2D. And a full length, double width single PCI slot for whatever happens to be a good deal for a video card. My gaming would probably mostly be limited to a GTA:VC, GTA:SA and GTA4. I already play the first two on my macbook pro on XP. I use a real PS2 controller with a USB adapter. Works awesome and the graphics blow away PS2 for the same games. I'd get a video card with miniDisplayPort so I could go right from that port to HDMI with Audio.

I'm not sure I'm going to do this, right now I'm just thinking about it. I'd appreciate any input. I don't know if the PC world has embraced laptop parts in desktops like the Mac world has. But for a system like this, it would be a perfect fit. And such a system could in theory be made very small. Not much bigger than an actual playstation I'm thinking.
 
A full on PC would be a tad more expensive than an Xbox/PS3 but they're much more versatile
Also: instead of having a mini-DP>HDMI, why not have a GPU w/ HDMI? lol.

This build is used by heaps of people, you'd get alot of feedback from [H]members that are familiar with this setup.

Also, you may be interested in throwing in a Corsair H50 $80 for liquid cool-ness
Finally, $100 for Windows 7 OEM 64bit Home Premium edition. Because you're not expected to use this PC for use outside of gaming, professional seems unnecessary
 
I just recently built a mITX gaming box also. I Was limited on video to a 5750 though because I wanted the lian li pc-q07 (I love the size of the box). Your best bet is probably the DFI as nobody knows for sure of the Intel h57jg will actually run the quad cores (although I should have the answer to that soon since I have an i7-860 on order). I Think that if your building in a sugo or any other itx gamng case it would be a pretty straight forward build, just remember that if you get a slim optical drive you need an adapter to make it work.
