Well i setup i have been working on.

MOTHERBOARD
CPU
VIDEO CARD
MEMORY
CASE
HARD DRIVE
POWER SUPPLY

The fans and things like that i well get some were else. Now i'm not making this for a insane gaming computer i just want a nice computer that i can use.

Comments things i should change?

EDIT: sorry forgot the price.

1054$

Not bad and when i add heatsinks fans lights etc.

EDIT: The new idea.

MOBO
CPU
GPU
MEMORY
CASE
HDD
PSU

Why a P4 2.8B? You could get a 3000+ Winchester 939 (retail) for less.

With the AMD64, you will need a diff mobo. Might I suggest MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum, or DFI
LanParty? It will be a few more bucks but the money you save on the CPU plus a heatsink and fan that you would need with the Intel chip would make up for that.

You could get a much bigger hard drive for a few bucks more. Go ahead and spring for a 160gb drive at least. It will be worth it in the long run.

Also, for $99, you could get a different brand PSU, check the sticky at the top of the PSU forum for a few recommendations.

I well look in to a bigger hard drive and might look at the 3.4ghz p4 but i'm a intel man lol.

Edit: Just want to say i have no prob with amd but like i sed intel man.

Whatever brand of chip you want to use is fine but a 2.8B really isnt a good deal especially since it runs at 533mhz bus and costs more than other chips which perform much better. It would be a major shame spending $400 on a video card only to put a crappy chip in it. That said, your PSU choice seems fine.

It's better but it still isn't atx2.0 so limited upgrade path. I didn't say anything about the intel because when someone selects intel or AMD they usually aren't going to change their mind.
:D

The 775 3.4ghz is fine but just don't forget you will need a diff mobo. And if you are doing that you might as well go PCI-E.

No its "LGA775"

Oh well damn you should be able to find a bunch of PCI-E boards then. At newegg make sure you select socket 775 and 915 or 925 for chipset when looking and you should be golden.

If you wanted 478 that was going to be a little thinner.

Edit: got to run. I will check back in the morning ot see if you got it worked out.

Well i am not going to OC and if i ever do i well prob get a new mobo any ways.

And i know i'm looking for new ram better ram lol.

And usually when people pick an AMD or an Intel....or an ATI or an NVIDIA they do so for a reason and it is really useless trying to change their minds so you just work with their preferences unless it is going to eat their computer like shitty PSU.

im sorry all i saw was insane gaming computer, plus a X800pro as his card and saw no one telling him otherwise. still the 6800gt is a better deal

I don't honestly think i could blow off $100 on something like a power supply. I have always been more focused on things like ram processor and video card myself.

however. ..if you want a high end powersupply ...

this .. looks promising

No. Bad suggestion on the PSU. It is made by Young Year and in most to all of the good reviews.....that means not it looks pretty and I loaded it with these components and it didn't blow up right away for the 20 minutes I ran it case modder reviews......it had consistantly high rails, power input ranges and in a number blew up. SO really bad.......really really bad......and on top of that really shitty advice. Your PSU is the only component that can take your entire system with it and it is the first line in protecting your very expensive components from power fluctuations.

Please......go read up in the PSU forum for a while.

Well guys thanks for the help anything else i should know?

ps,I know i should go to hell for saying this but a mac. Bad idea?

Depends on what you want to do. For your budget though probably a bad idea.

Here is my suggestion if you are buying Intel:

-Get LGA775, your future upgrade path will be ALOT better than Socket 478 (which maxes out at 3.4 GHz).
-Get a DDR400 mobo & RAM instead of DDR2, DDR2 costs more, but the performance is no better than DDR400 even with DDR2-533 and a 1066 MHz FSB on a P4 3.46EE (i.e., insanely expensive system):

http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2261&p=3

-Get PCI-Express, all the PCI-E cards are about the same prices as AGP 8x now, and since it is newer your future upgrade options will be better.

Something like this:

For power supply, consider an Antec Neopower 480. Dual 12v rails and ATX 2.0, and very quiet with the 120mm fan.

For video cards, the x800 XL is a better value in PCI-Express than the x800 Pro, faster AND cheaper generally.
