Think I can run a i7 920, 8800gts 320, coolermaster v-10 CPU cooler and two raptors off a thermaltake 500 watt psu with a 4 to 8 pin adaptor on the CPU plug???

Curious

Itll be a stretch...but it should do fine. How much amperage on 12v line? Specific power supply would be more helpful, it could be a strong 500 watt or a cheapo 500 watt...Thermaltake makes both lol

It is kind of a weak PSU but that setup is by far not out of spec for 500watts, or even 400watts after degradation.

I would say no, since none of Thermaltake's 500W PSUs are particularly good.

how about OCZ700GXSSLI-B??? OCZ gamestream 700 watt?? also can 6pin PCI express plugs be adapted to the 8pin ones??

The GameXStream is a low-quality PSU, but it should be fine with that much load. 6-pin PCI-E connectors cannot be adapted to 8-pin connectors.

So you think I could get by with the load up top with the OCZ PSU or is that too sketchy a PSU?
If you already have it on hand, it's a decent enough 500W PSU and will be enough for that setup. However, if you don't have it, don't buy it.

this any better? i used to think they were the best but has that changed?? think this has 6+2 and 8 pin PCIE too for 5850 and such

PC P&C no longer have the best PSUs out there. They still have good PSUs but there are often better quality PSUs for similar prices. For $100 (once you factor in shipping), that particular PC P&C PSU you linked to is not a good deal since you can get this equal quality, quieter, newer, and longer warrantied PSU (5 VS 1 for the PC P&C) for the same price:
$100 - Corsair 650TX 650W PSU

The only real thing you lose out on is amperage (52A Corsair VS 60A PC P&C), but those three main advantages (quieter, newer, and longer warranty) is worth the tradeoff IMO.

No to OCZ. Not even at $50 I'd recommend that 500W PSU.
Yes to Antec but it only has 45A on the +12V rail. The Corsair I recommended has 52A
No to PC P&C for the reasons mentioned earlier. Also the link is broken and you have to add an additional $10 for shipping.

Yes I'm saying go for the Corsair. But yes the Antec would be OK as well.

I am gonna try to clock the cpu but may run a second card (my 8800gts 320) for physix when New DX11 nvidia cards come out. but I will be buying a mainstream "mid level" Fermi kinda like the 5830 ati something in that realm in the fermi line when they come out in a few months

See directron has the PCP&C 750 for $75 shipped right now (recert) would you go with that over the antec for $75 shipped? curious.

I take corsair over both??

If running dual cards like that, the PC P&C is the far better choice since it has more amps on the +12V rail than the EA650. However, the main issue is that it's recertified. I personally wouldn't go for recertified PSUs with only 1 year warranty.

If it was just a single HD 5830 like card, then I would get the EA650. If it was the HD 5830 + GTS 320, then I'd spend the extra cash for this PSU:
$120 - Antec Truepower New TP750 Blue 750W PSU

thanks man I appreciate. I decided to roll the dice on this.

$64 shipped and I have another rig to test it in for a week or two and a psu tester for out of the box.

But this thread was very informative for me and I learned alot thanks
